Leading US biologist Thomas Lovejoy says to stop future outbreaks we need more respect for natural world

The vast illegal wildlife trade and humanity’s excessive intrusion into nature is to blame for the coronavirus pandemic, according to a leading US scientist who says “this is not nature’s revenge, we did it to ourselves”.

Scientists are discovering two to four new viruses are created every year as a result of human infringement on the natural world, and any one of those could turn into a pandemic, according to Thomas Lovejoy, who coined the term “biological diversity” in 1980 and is often referred to as the godfather of biodiversity.

Haley launches ‘Stop Communist China’ campaign

Stop Trump’s very good friend and the bankers who hold Trump loans worth millions? Oh, I guess they count on Trump-Haley supporters not being able to add 2+2! Racism of the worst kind. Asserting that China’s Communist government needs to be held accountable for “lying” about the coronavirus pandemic, top Indian-American Republican politician Nikki Haley has launched an online petition urging the US Congress to act. More than 40,000 people have signed the ‘Stop Communist China’ petition by Friday night, hours after being launched by the former governor of South Carolina who has set a goal of getting 100,000 signatures.

While many of us have political views we’ll express outside of work, we’re used to keeping that part of ourselves walled off when we don our scrubs and lab coats. But because of our growing frustration at the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic that now puts every American at risk, thousands of physicians have become activist doctors.
