Anti-English nationalist anger at anti-immigrant English nationalist immigrant Farage
What goes around, comes around?
(not satire – or is it?)
OK – so let’s see if I’ve the hang of this Nigel Farage in Scotland story.
An anti-immigrant English nationalist is berating anti-English nationalists in Scotland for berating what they see as an English immigrant trying to immigrate anti-immigrant English nationalist policies into Scotland?
Is that right?
If it is, I’m not sure this is so much a case of satire dying as it having to lie down in a dark room with a nasty headache for a while.

OCA Calls on Congress to Reject King Amendment and Any Other Farm Bill Riders That Would Preempt State GMO Labeling Laws
Monsanto and the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) have admitted privately that they’ve “lost the battle” to stop GE food labeling at the state level, now that states are aggressively moving forward on labeling laws. On May 14, Maine’s House Ag Committee passed a GMO labeling law. On May 10, the Vermont House passed a labeling bill, 99-42, despite massive lobbying by Monsanto and threats to sue the state. And though Monsanto won a razor-thin victory (51 percent to 49 percent) in a costly, hard fought California GMO labeling ballot initiative last November, biotech and Big Food now realize that Washington State voters will likely pass I-522, an upcoming ballot initiative to label GE foods, on November 5.
“If Monsanto can’t stop states from passing laws, then the next step is a national preemptive measure,” Cummins said. “And all signs point to just such a power grab.”
UK department cuts climate change adaptation team from 38 to 6
In reference to the cut in staff at DEFRA, Andy Atkins added: “After a year that has already brought flooding and other extreme weather to the UK, it’s shocking that the department responsible for protecting us against the effects of climate change is to pare its staff to the bone.”

Three Years, Thirteen Football Fields Worth of School Gardens | Civil Eats
While together, we celebrated our accomplishments since August: reaching nearly 55,000 children in 300 schools, giving them opportunities to gain knowledge of what real food is in the classroom, to engage hands-on with fruits and vegetables in school gardens, and to get access to farm-fresh ingredients in their cafeterias. And while our metrics of success this year are strong (13 football fields worth of school gardens! 2,000 volunteers! 230 healthy items added to lunch menus!), our proudest accomplishments come in the form of stories.
That’s why, while in Detroit, we held our first ever “FoodTalks,” an evening of storytelling that we recorded, and can be seen on YouTube. We had a chance to hear from service members in each state about how they see FoodCorps service working in their communities; about students who have taught them as much as they’re teaching; about the people in their lives who inspired them to get involved in food and farming; and about where they see themselves headed after FoodCorps service. Jen Rusciano, another of our FoodCorps service members in Detroit, explained to us how her student, “Jay,” who usually struggled with school, found connection and pride through the small food business he created with his peers.

What Lebanese Christians Are Not Entitled To
A Separate State of Mind | A Blog by Elie Fares
Entitlement. The word thrown around so loosely lately it’s become the go-to term in Lebanese politics, especially when it comes to Christians and their – forgive me, our – rights.
As such, I have decided to make a list of things Lebanese Christians think are entitled to but are not:

Your Guide To Bike To Work Day, Which Is TOMORROW: Gothamist
My leg’s been doing this weird twitchy thing and this crazy weather has been too unpredictable are no longer valid excuses to forgo commuting by bike tomorrow. Not only is it supposed to be a pleasant 72 degrees, but tomorrow is officially Bike to Work Day. If the convenience, fresh air, and life-enhancing exercise isn’t enough to coax you out of your transit rut, maybe free food, coffee, and a party on Brooklyn’s waterfront will do the trick.
From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Transportation Alternatives will host fueling stations at seven different bike commuting hotspots, and will be serving free iced coffee from Brooklyn Roasting Company, Vita Coco (yeah whatever you’ll drink it), and food from KIND and Cabot cheese. You’ll also have an opportunity to become a TA member and get bike lights and reflective decals.
