Egypt’s Military Gives Morsi 48 Hours To Respond To The Demands of The People

Egyptian Streets

Egyptians in Tahrir Square and across Egypt have erupted in cheers following the Military’s statement. In a televised address, Egypt’s Minister of Defence, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi, declared that the President has 48 hours to respond to the demands of the Egyptian people. The Minister added that if the time expires and the Minister has not responded to the demands, then Egypt’s Armed Forces will have the duty to intervene.

The Minister started by stating that the Armed Forces will not be a party in politics or leadership, but that the continued atmosphere threatens Egypt’s society and the people. However, the Minister also clearly stated that the Armed Forces will not rule the country, and will instead create a road map in cooperation with all parties, and especially the Egyptian youth, to create a government that represents all Egyptians.

Patented phage therapy against pear and apple fire blight

The property of the selected phage to infect secondary targets and to multiply in the natural environment avoids or reduces the need for repeated treatments. The phage becomes a factor of sustainable integrated pest management in order to contain E. amylovora populations and reduce disease pressure. This strategy solves the problem of short survival of phages exposed to abiotic environmental stresses (eg pH, t°C and especially ultraviolet radiation, particularly between 200-400 nm), the main obstacle to use phages in the fight against plant bacterial diseases in the field; for this reason it is recommended the phage preparations treatment just before sunset. During the growing season the dew wetting during the night favours the encounter of phage particles with bacterial cells. Phages associated with the bacteria can penetrate passively into the plant tissues at dawn, at the time of stomata opening.

Medical Experimentation on Chimps Is Nearing an End. But What About Monkeys? | Wired Science | Wired.com

Kathleen Conlee, animal research director with the Humane Society of the United States, noted that the NIH has resisted attempts to strengthen the federal Animal Welfare Act, which guides how animals are used in research in the United States. Those rules are often vague and researchers can too easily apply for exemptions, said Conlee.

Many rhesus monkeys are, for example, kept in solitary cages, an experience known to drive these highly social animals crazy. “The Animal Welfare Act was supposed to create environments that addressed the psychological well-being of these animals,” said Conlee. “A lot of the facilities are falling short of meeting those minimal standards.”

One Humane Society analysis of documents from two major U.S. primate research facilities found that their animals spent, on average, 53 percent of their lives in solitary housing, sometimes with nothing in their cage but a piece of metal hung on one side for “enrichment.”

It might sound strange to consider how best to treat monkeys that are consigned to medical sacrifice anyways — but if we’re going to use these intelligent, emotional creatures, we should do it right, said Conlee. “Until the day we ultimately replace them in research,” she said, “we have an obligation to address their welfare.”

Old school “scientists” cannot think in new ways to be humane and to be more exact in their research in this genome mapping age, than to use early 1900s “test” methods.

Baltimore Free Farm dispute in Hampden – baltimoresun.com

Baltimore needs to better recognize the efforts of the hundreds of community groups that have voluntarily and freely taken responsibility for improving vacant lots. The city should not be able to sell a lot in the middle of a lease, and it needs to make the process for making the “adoption” of a lot permanent more transparent and predictable. After all, redevelopment is not the only way to turn a vacant to value.

Breaking – Edward Snowden to seek refuge from US justice in Wall St

Too small to fail?

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

In a new development, Wall St – which is notorious for giving safe haven from US justice to hundreds of well-known criminals and gangsters – has confirmed that whistleblower fugitive Edward Snowden has made a bid to escape US courts by asking for asylum in the notoriously fugitive friendly gangsters paradise.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Mr Snowden said the ex-CIA operative was optimistic the eight-block-long financial district in the heart of New York would agree to grant him asylum because the lunatics have been running the asylum there for years.

Experts say it is a masterstroke by Snowden – who is extremely unlikely to face US justice if his application for refuge in Wall St is accepted. Although Washington has been aware for years of the numerous criminal activities taking place in the tax haven – not one criminal harboured by Wall St has ever been tried…

METRO VANCOUVER — The Delta school district is partnering with an innovative urban farming business to launch a first-of-its-kind agricultural program in B.C.

Beginning this September, the district will begin farming some of its underutilized properties to grow an array of artisan quality fruit and vegetables, using some of the products in school cafeterias, while donating others to the food bank.
