Lebanon needs peace and to be together not fighting each other again.
FDA’s Team Tomato Fights Contamination | Food Safety News
To scientists at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the tomato is an enigma and the focus of a group of researchers nicknamed “Team Tomato.”
The mystery of the tomato has to do with its vulnerability to contamination by Salmonella, a bacterium that is a common cause of foodborne illness.
From 1973 to 2010, there were 15 multistate outbreaks of illnesses attributed to Salmonella contamination of raw tomatoes, with 12 of these outbreaks taking place since 2000. They resulted in almost 2,000 confirmed illnesses and three deaths, with states in the eastern U.S. hardest hit.
“The conditions in which tomatoes thrive are also the conditions in which Salmonella thrive,” says Eric Brown, Ph.D., director of FDA’s Division of Microbiology. “But the tomato always presented an extra challenge because it is so short-lived. By the time it looked like contaminated tomatoes could be causing illnesses, the harvest would be gone.”

He also said their facility would not use a controversial captive-bolt gun to euthanize the horses, instead using a .410 shotgun.
Horses are “an extremely high quality protein source that’s been used in other countries for a long, long time,” Rains said. “It’s a waste not to use it.”

How can anyone support killers of children for politics or religion?
The 6 July raid was thought to be a reprisal attack following a 4 July military raid on a BH camp, according to security sources, medics and local residents.
Mamudo is 5km from Potiskum, the commercial capital of Yobe State, some 100km from the state capital Damaturu.
“Many students escaped into surrounding bushes with gunshot wounds. Soldiers who combed the area found six students with gunshot wounds and brought them to the hospital where they are receiving treatment,” said Halliru Aliyu, a medic at the Potiskum general hospital where the bodies were taken.
The incident was the third deadly attack on schools by BH Islamists since the start of a sweeping military offensive against the group in May.
On 16 May BH gunmen fired on a student dormitory in Damaturu, killing seven students and two teachers.
On 17 May BH opened fire on an examination hall at Ansaruddeen Private School in the Jajeri area of Maiduguri, capital of Borno State, killing 15 students.
Yobe State officials say BH has burnt down 205 schools in the state in the past year.
Immigration Reform
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
— From the sonnet “New Colossus” by Emma Lazarus, currently located at the Statue of Liberty museum.
On June 27, 2013, the Senate passed S, 744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity and Immigration Modernization Act, on a 68-34 vote. The provisions contained in it are a far cry from the sentiments expressed in the quote above, but do represent a compromise between them and the stricter demands for conditions to be met by the Republicans in order to achieve comprehensive immigration reform. A potential pathway to citizenship for nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants is included.
The key amendment making the passage of the bill possible on a somewhat bipartisan basis involves appropriating more than…

Indonesians rescued after days trapped in tree by tigers – Fairy tale
A group of Indonesian men who spent four days trapped up a tree by Sumatran tigers were rescued on Monday when wildlife experts induced the snarling creatures to leave, police said.
The five were dehydrated, hungry and terrified following their ordeal, which began on Thursday when they sought refuge in the forest canopy after an attack by the tigers, which left a sixth man dead.
They were hunting for rare wood used to make incense, but provoked the ire of the critically endangered animals when they accidentally killed a tiger cub in a trap set to catch antelopes and deer for food.
A team of 30 rescuers, including police and soldiers, reached the men deep in the jungle in the north of Sumatra island on Sunday – to find the ravenous tigers still circling the tree.

More than likely, I believe, they were trying to capture a tiger and got caught at their own game.
Interview with Egyptian Politician Mohamed ElBaradei – SPIEGEL ONLINE
SPIEGEL: If the Muslim Brotherhood runs in the next election and wins, would you accept one of their members as the country’s new leader?
ElBaradei: Yes, if they commit themselves to democracy, and if we have a constitution and a parliament that will prevent them from abusing their power the way Morsi did.

In short, he does not trust the Brotherhood – nor should he given their performance over the last year and their involvement in the murder of Sadat.
Islamist rhetoric becomes more intransigent | Middle East | DW.DE | 08.07.2013
The behavior of the fundamentalists has become more extreme in recent days. Three days ago, preachers and imams in Nasr City were speaking far more moderately.
The security teams of the Islamists also seem to have turned more fundamentalist: they stand two by two, armed in military formation. Their leader starts a question and answer game: “What is your book?” “The Koran!” “Who is your prophet?” Mohammed!” What do you want?” “We want to die for Allah!” Then they march on the spot, before running in step to their positions.
