New AFDO Document Reveals ‘Issues and Concerns With Imported Foods’ | Food Safety News

Two years ago, imported foods entering the U.S. for the first time exceeded 10 million import lines, and AFDO says that number is expected to continue to grow at a rapid rate. The group also says that while fewer than 1 percent are physically examined, all are electronically reviewed using a “risk-based targeted approach.”

“Once these FDA-regulated products enter the United States and are marketed domestically, they become the primary responsibility of state and local agencies to ensure the product’s safety,” notes the AFDO guidance document.

“Surveillance of imported foods by federal, state, and local food-protection agencies has resulted in many regulatory actions including food sampling and testing, food seizure and embargo, destruction of violative products, Class I, II, and III food recalls, and FDA import Alerts,” the guidance adds.

www.german-foreign-policy.com – Buddies: NSA and BND

The German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) admits having forwarded so-called metadata to the US military’s NSA secret service. According to the BND, this data which, as shown by US whistleblower Edward Snowden’s documents, was forwarded from Germany to the United States, may also contain material resulting from espionage in Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, the BND, at the instigation of the German Chancellery, is particularly engaged in spying on that country’s government. In any case, not only the domestic spying service (the “Office of the Protection of the Constitution”), but also the BND has been trained by the NSA in how to operate the XKeyscore surveillance program, which, according to the German weekly “Der Spiegel,” opens the possibility of a nearly “total surveillance.”

So what’s the real reason Boris Johnson broke his promise not to cut London’s fire services?

Boris is also a dolt and thinks other services will bail out London if there is a big fire, the smaller force cannot handle.

Pride's Purge

(not satire – it’s Boris Johnson!)

He lied.

Before his re-election, when asked whether he was planning to cut London’s fire services, Boris Johnson rather testily – but very clearly – denied it:

I am in favour of retaining the 27 fire appliances and all front line operatives…There shouldn’t be a reduction in the fire appliances… I don’t want to get rid of them, what’s the problem?

But now – surprise surprise – we discover Johnson has agreed to close 10 fire stations, axe 14 fire engines, slash 552 frontline firefighting jobs and remove two rescue units.

Which means cuddly Boris broke his promise.

Or to put it another way, the real reason he broke his promise is because he’s a deceitful, deceptive, delusive, dissembling, double-crossing, double-dealing, equivocating, misinforming, oily, perfidious, shifty, slippery, soft-soaping, treacherous, two-faced, bullshitting liar.

Simple.

Murder, Menace Stalk Istanbul’s LGBT Community – Al-Monitor: the Pulse of the Middle East

I had been researching the murder of Gaye, a 43-year-old trans woman killed in her home in Istanbul’s Beyoglu district on July 26. The neighbors who found her body three days later reported that she had been strangled, but the police are yet to make a public statement on the circumstances of her death. If Gaye’s killing proves to be motivated by hate as the local Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transsexual (LGBT) chapter claims, she will be the tenth known transgender victim of such crimes in Turkey in the last eighteen months.

Project Sweetie Pie: Teens get fresh (food) in North Minneapolis | Twin Cities Daily Planet

“We started with five gardens in 2011.” said Chaney. “This year we have 20. We’re trying to replicate the whole food system and get young people involved.” The gardens, he said, offer kids an opportunity to learn skills that may lead to future jobs and to give them something to do that might keep them out of trouble. He also hopes that it can help pull North Minneapolis out of poverty.

“We can’t get a big company to come to North Minneapolis,” he said. “But what we can do is get empty lots and turn them into food production. This is getting the community involved in the free market system. There are 1,800 empty lots in North Minneapolis, some because of the tornado.”

Fukushima Radioactive Leak Is An ‘Emergency,’ Nuclear Body Says | InsideClimate News

Highly radioactive water seeping into the ocean from Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant is creating an “emergency” that the operator is struggling to contain, an official from the country’s nuclear watchdog said on Monday.

This contaminated groundwater has breached an underground barrier, is rising toward the surface and is exceeding legal limits of radioactive discharge, Shinji Kinjo, head of a Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NRA) task force, told Reuters.

Countermeasures planned by Tokyo Electric Power Co are only a temporary solution, he said.

Tepco’s “sense of crisis is weak,” Kinjo said. “This is why you can’t just leave it up to Tepco alone” to grapple with the ongoing disaster.

Breaking News: Iceland Whalers Want to Hunt Humpbacks

While covering Iceland’s commercial whaling industry over the last two months I have found myself thinking, “alright, this is completely unacceptable and terrible, but I guess it could be worse.”  I regret to inform you that it just got worse.  The nightmare that once was humpback whaling could potentially reemerge, according to a report today from Visir, a national newspaper in Iceland.

In the article (link below), Gunnar Bergmann Jonsson, director of the minke whalers association, seems confident that humpbacks will be hunted again, and expresses his company’s desire to engage in such “fishing”.  But what’s scarier than a powerful whaler expressing his opinion about killing a species that humans once pushed to the brink of extinction?

A War of Numbers

It was enough people to show that many more than voted for the past elected government had decided that he was wrecking Egypt and had to go.

Egyptian Streets

Numbers, numbers everywhere, but not an accurate statistic in sight

By Peter Schwartz, contributor, EgyptianStreets.com

‘So let me get this straight: how big were the demonstrations?’ an Irish friend recently asked me.

I hummed and hawed, bandied around a few possible statistics, but then embarrassed, was forced to admit I didn’t really know. He was mightily unimpressed. After regaling him with tales of Ittihadeya crammed to the gills and suffocating-room only in Tahrir, I was supposed to have a good grasp of the situation.

I don’t, though, at least not when it comes to providing precise, or even vague figures.

In this, however, I’m far from alone, because Egypt, whose Pharaohs were conducting censuses when most Europeans were just about getting to grips with the wheel, has a problem with numbers.

Take June 30th as a case in point: 33 million people protested against Morsi, many of his opponents say.  It was more like 17…

Immigration officers accused of singling out ‘Australian’ looking people in spot checks

Pride's Purge

(satire?)

Immigration chiefs have been accused of using ‘heavy handed’ and ‘intimidating’ tactics against anybody who looks Australian or New Zealand-ish during anti-immigration operations carried out across London recently.

The criticism comes after immigration officers targeting illegal immigrants stopped and questioned any passengers who were tall and suntanned with long shaggy blond hair and wearing surfer shorts at tube stations in several London boroughs.

However, according to several witnesses the officers were aggressive, intimidating and were specifically targeting individuals who had corks hanging from their hats.

Kensal Rise resident Sheila Irwin told the Times she was closely questioned about her attitude to wrestling crocodiles and threatened with arrest after she admitted she preferred vegemite to marmite.

She said:

I thought the behaviour of the immigration officers was heavy-handed and frightening. They appeared to be stopping and questioning every antipodean-looking person, many of whom were clearly ordinary Kensal Green residents on…

Dressed For Murder

God wants to and does love us all – killing in God’s name is the abomination and fear of no being sure of yourself does drive men and women to believe they are above God

Jamaica Woman Tongue

DWAYNE JONES probably thought he was dressed to kill when he stepped out to that fateful dance. He couldn’t have known he was going to be the prey. But he must have realised he was making a risky fashion statement. After all, the dance was taking place just outside ‘Gyal-tego’ Bay.

That’s the new name for Montego Bay in the twisted vocabulary of super-sensitive Jamaican males. And Mandeville is now ‘Gyal-deville’. It’s not a joke. It’s a very serious matter. Sexually insecure men are so fearful of appearing to be homosexual that they cannot go into a ‘man’ town or city. Only gyal.

images-1It’s the same ‘reason’ bad man don’t eat guinep. Dem don’t suck seed. And, despite all the bravado, they don’t succeed in hiding their weakness. If you have to go to such extremes to reassure yourself that you are a real-real man, something must be fundamentally wrong.
