North Carolina DHHS makes flu vaccines mandatory for healthcare workers | Vaccine News Daily

Will not be long before state legislature that believes in knows everything – will move to take away this power from state government because it interferes with right to be dumb and give others the flu!

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services recently directed leaders of 14 state-operated healthcare facilities to institute a mandatory flu vaccination policy for 10,000 employees and volunteers to protect patients.

Employees of the DHHS Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities were told about the policy in late August. Employees must be vaccinated by December 1.

Engaging the normative question in the H5N1 avian influenza mutation experiments – exercise in self-delusion

More proof that humans can convince/delude themselves into justifying anything they want to do or might make a profit or career for someone – even if inordinately dumb and dangerous!

The question here is whether there was reasonable moral warrant for genetic alteration of the H5N1 influenza virus.

Conclusion: The paper concludes with philosophical (ethical) justification for continuation of this research.

Farming and knowledge monocultures are misconceived | Food First/Institute for Food and Development Policy

The Vision 2020 programme of the Andhra Pradesh state government in India is another example of promoting agroindustrial models. Supported by the Indian and UK governments, together with Monsanto, the world’s largest GM seed and agrochemical company, the programme’s stated aim was to reduce the state’s rural population by 30 per cent as part of efforts to ‘modernise’ agriculture by minimising labour and eradicating so-called inefficient peasant agriculture.

The more than 25 million people designated for removal from the land were not included in any social impact assessment of this plan.

One condition to live with all troubles

hunadah

I thought the problem was that we didn’t know; however, for me, the problem turned out to be so much different. Our problem is that we know and we can live with it. We can live with famine, war, diseases, disasters, murder, poverty, and all the human crises. You think not? Of course we all can, but with one condition and one condition only to be able to do it is: When it is not us that are suffering from that.

“This piece was primarily a trust exercise, in which she told viewers she would not move for six hours no matter what they did to her. She placed 72 objects one could use in pleasing or destructive ways, ranging from flowers and a feather boa to a knife and a loaded pistol, on a table near her and invited the viewers to use them on her however they wanted.

Initially, Abramović said, viewers were peaceful and timid, but it escalated to violence quickly. “The experience I learned was that … if you leave decision to the public, you can be killed… I felt really violated: they cut my clothes, stuck rose thorns in my stomach, one person aimed the gun at my head, and another took it away. It created an aggressive atmosphere. After exactly 6 hours, as planned, I stood up and started walking toward the public. Everyone ran away, escaping an actual confrontation.”

This piece revealed something terrible about humanity, similar to what Philip Zimbardo’s Stanford Prison Experiment or Stanley Milgram’s Obedience Experiment, both of which also proved how readily people will harm one another under unusual circumstances.”

This performance showed just how easy it is to dehumanize a person who doesn’t fight back, and is particularly powerful because it defies what we think we know about ourselves. I’m certain the no one reading this believes the people around him/her capable of doing such things to another human being, but this performance proves otherwise.”

this is why performance art is important

So every single person who told me ‘ignore them they’ll go away’ and ‘you can’t let them know they bothered you’ and ‘They’ll stop if they don’t see you react’ and all that bull shit, my entire school career, I want you to look good and hard at this.

I want you to think about what you said.

What you keep saying.

What you are telling your children.

You are making them powerless.

ASIA/SYRIA – Letter from the Grand Mufti of Damascus to the Pope: “Let us work together for peace” – Fides News Agency

In St. Peter’s Square (if possible) or in the great Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, the Grand Mufti of Syria, Ahmad Badreddin Hassou , spiritual leader of Sunni Islam, welcomes the Pope’s appeal and will be there praying and fasting for peace in his country. The Mufti sent, through the Apostolic Nunciature in Damascus, an official letter to Pope Francis and is preparing to participate in the special pro-Syria day on September 7, proposing to the Holy See to organize an interfaith meeting.

In the text of the letter, sent to Fides Agency, the mufti defines Pope Francis’ appeal “son of the heavenly laws”, praising the initiative to “pray for peace in Syria” as “good and for the good of humanity”.

“His Holiness – the text reads – we thank you for this appeal of great humanity, based on faith, to fast and pray together God Almighty in order to bring peace on earth and protect us from the power of evil and oppression”. Words which, according to the mufti, are in contrast “with all those who hide the shining light of faith, charity, mercy, and peace, that you ask and we all ask, as also the Prophets and Messengers of God asked”.

Cambodia reports 18th human case of bird flu this year – Xinhua | English.news.cn

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) — A 15-month-old boy in the capital’s Russei Keo district has been diagnosed with H5N1 virus, bringing the number of the cases to 18 so far this year, a joint statement by the World Health Organization and Cambodian Health Ministry said Wednesday.

The boy was confirmed positive for human H5N1 avian influenza last Friday after he was admitted to the Kantha Bopha Hospital with fever, cough, diarrhea, sneezing, lethargy and dyspnea, the statement said.

“The boy was treated with Tamiflu and he is in a stable condition,” it said.

“Investigations are being carried out by the Ministry of Health in the boy’s village in order to determine whether the child came into contact with sick or dead poultry,” the statement said.

Only eight cases out of the 18 cases this year survived.

Minorities Must Demand Equal Protection in The Legal Process/Shaynia Davis Update

All of us should demand that equal protection in the legal process be actively pursued throughout the land – inequality threatens all of us.

Tess Powell Out Loud

Does anyone remember this little angel, whose life was tortuously ended by depraved  murderer Mario Andretti McNeil?shaniya

It was in 2009 5 year old Shaniya Davis was “traded” for drugs, by the her “mother”, Antoinette Davis. I don’t know if I ever heard of a more heinous crime, with so much evidence in my life.
Yet it took over 3 years to Mario Andretti McNeil to trial & convict him to the death penalty. Ms Davis hasn’t been to trial yet.
Let’s contrast that with the murder of Trayvon Martin. Not only was he killed, but it took the outcry of a community to even get his killer arrested. Somehow though this case has been tried & the murderer acquitted in less than a year.
I contrast these two cases not exploit either victim, but to point out the fundamental fact that minorities in the US, whether victim or…

Why Can’t I Ever Get Enough of You? | Putting It Out There

I don’t mean to seem ungrateful.

I wake up to you, spread out in front of me,

your contours glistening even in the earliest morning hours.

Every inch of you is full of possibility.

Then you’re off and running, all mysterious.

I’m hit with the fact that there never seems to be enough of you.

But realize, even if I had more of you, I’d feel deprived.

(And, oddly, when you linger

I get edgy.)

Why is it never enough?

You’ve stood by me in your own way,

but so often you seem distant, impossible to reach.

When I’m not paying attention, you sneak off into the recesses of the day.

You resist my embraces and never stay long,

stealing my breath with your abrupt exits.

As I’ve grown older, I’ve come to understand

You don’t just belong to me.

Why are you always in a rush to leave me?

When you’re here, why do you act like you’d rather move on?

Sssshhh. No need to answer.

Just slip in the door like you usually do.

If I’m not here, leave a note;

let me know you’ll return, to be beside me as I dream my dreams

and when I awake.

I try not to think about how much of you I’ve lost already.

Or how I’ve tried to hold you back, sometimes desperate, clinging…

So I’ve made a promise to myself to savor and appreciate you more,

for what you are.

But… I’d be forever grateful if you’d stop and let me hold you.

If only for an instant.

And then I’ll let you go so that stories may be created,

and lives can start and end.

How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives. ~Annie Dillard
