Snarky Snippets — Or Mini Rants?

One hour … well, just over an hour, say maybe 65 minutes.  That’s how long it took before I dropped the first f-bomb of the day.  Used to be I …

Barrage of hate from far-right Trumpists to Sikh prayer at Republican convention | Republican national convention 2024 | The Guardian

A toxic, racist, far-right response to Harmeet Dhillon’s Monday-night Sikh prayer at the Republican national convention is just one sign of the difficulties Donald Trump and Republicans have in selling a more diverse version of Trumpism to the party’s base.

Social media posts following Dhillon’s prayer indicated that some far-right Trumpists had been polarized by the sight of a non-Christian form of religious devotion on the convention stage in Milwaukee.

The barrage of hate she received from a segment of fellow Trump supporters may have been especially galling to Dhillon, whose earliest public prominence was as a civil rights lawyer defending turban-wearing Sikh men from post-9/11 racial profiling.

2 deaths in listeriosis outbreak linked to plant-based milk recall, Health Canada says | CBC News – Silk and Great Value

Earlier this month, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled certain Silk and Great Value brands of oat, almond and coconut refrigerated beverages over possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.

The president of Danone Canada, the manufacturer of the recalled drinks, said the company was working to investigate the circumstances surrounding the contaminated drinks.

“The news in this notice is devastating and our most sincere sympathies go out to the families and loved ones during this difficult time,” Frédéric Guichard wrote in a statement.

Guichard noted the company has conducted the recall and removed affected products from retail shelves.

Danone had previously said the contaminated products were linked to a specific production line at a third-party manufacturer, but authorities have not yet shared how the products were contaminated with listeria.

Listeria monocytogenes is a type of bacteria that can cause listeriosis, a rare but serious illness with symptoms that may start suddenly and include vomiting, nausea, cramps, severe headache, constipation or fever. More severe illness may result in the brain infection meningitis and blood infection in newborns and older adults.

In recent years, about 134 cases of invasive listeriosis have been reported annually in the country, according to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). Of these, Public Health Ontario reported 75 cases in 2023, including 14 deaths.

Statement from President Joe Biden on $1.2 Billion in Student Debt Cancellation for 35,000 Borrowers | The White House (Me: Way to go Joe, still my choice for President 2024!)

Today, my Administration is canceling student debt for 35,000 people through Public Service Loan Forgiveness, bringing the total number of Americans who have benefitted from our various debt relief actions to 4.76 million people. Each of those borrowers has received an average of over $35,000 in debt cancellation. These 35,000 borrowers approved for forgiveness today are public service workers – teachers, nurses, law enforcement officials, and first responders who have dedicated their lives to strengthening their communities, and because of the fixes we made to Public Service Loan Forgiveness, they will now have more breathing room to support themselves and their families.

Today’s announcement comes on top of the significant progress we’ve made for students and borrowers over the past three years. That includes providing the largest increases to the maximum Pell Grant in over a decade; fixing Income-Driven Repayment so borrowers get the relief they are entitled to under the law; and holding colleges accountable for taking advantage of students and families. And earlier this year, I laid out my Administration’s new plans that would cancel student debt for more than 30 million Americans when combined with everything we’ve done so far.

From day one of my Administration, I promised to fight to ensure higher education is a ticket to the middle class, not a barrier to opportunity. I will never stop working to make higher education affordable – no matter how many times Republican elected officials try to stop us.

Mutant Ninja Roaches? | From Behind the Pen

I HATE THEM WITH A PASSION! To me, a good roach is a dead one. Three years ago, I wrote a post, Who Let the Bugs Out? talking about my disdain for those fast scurrying little disease-ridden pests running across the floor like they stole something, and were heading for a getaway car. Okay, so I am being a little dramatic about the getaway car part, but I am not far from the truth.

So here’s the deal. Over the weekend, I loaded my dishwasher with our dishes, and pots after dinner. When I went to start my dishwasher it wouldn’t start. So, my husband and I went through the typical troubleshooting steps, like hitting the breaker switch that powers the dishwasher and that didn’t work. We did a reset on the appliance, but it didn’t work. We made sure the switch on the wall was on and the door was shut tight. Still, nothing worked.

So, we called a repairman to come check it out. Of course, whether or not we got the appliance repaired we still had to pay a service fee. No problem. After he went through all of the diagnostics, I of course, was observing what he was doing and saw some debris in different sections of the door when he unscrewed it to look at the motherboard. Well, honey, the next thing he told me made my jaw literally drop to the floor, and I began to feel wheezy, like throwup kind of wheezy! And then, I got pissed in like zero to two seconds.

The debris I saw…are you ready for it? Was roach feces! EWWWWWWWWW!!! 😝 In my freaking dishwasher? Those little S.O.B.s short-circuited my motherboard and left evidence of it. These waterbugs love any area where there is a water source especially (bathroom sinks and toilets, kitchen sinks, refrigerators, and yep, dishwashers). And get this, the repairman said, oh we see this all the time. Oh really?

Hence, would you believe that buying a new dishwasher was cheaper than trying to repair it? It seems that these nasty little ‘road-running roaches’ love circuit boards too, even in TVs. Are they trying to be the super-villan of insects? I cringe at the thought of them squirming around in the door panels of my dishwasher, especially when I thought I eliminated access to their supply source a few years ago. Of course, I didn’t see as many as I once saw before we took to caulking around the open spaces near the pipes, but spotting one is one too many for me.

But now, with hundreds of dollars we had to cough up for a new dishwasher, parts, installation, and delivery charges, I am one mad sistah on a mission to pull out my flame thrower of annihilation for these suckers! I try to keep a spotless house, and I scratch my head when I see a bug or two after turning on the lights late at night, as they make a mad dash to find a quick hiding spot when they get caught red-handed, doing whatever they do in the dark. However, no matter how clean you keep your home, those little buggers always find some way to get in and creep you out.

So now, I’m packin’ my special homicide shoes, that got almost an inch of sole and some extra-strength indoor bug spray that will make them wish they were dead because guess what? They will be! UGH! Just when I thought I had the upper hand on this situation, they are now getting extra superpowers from the motherboards of my appliances, while turning themselves into the mighty Mutant Ninja Roaches. Oh yeah, I got your Cowabunga dude. I say to those bold little pests, “Be afraid…be very afraid! I will find you and I will kill you.” (channeling my inner Liam Neeson from the movie Taken).

(I understand that “Roach” meant a joint people smoked to get high back in the day when we were dancing to this tune in the 70s. I’m not sure, however, if this is true, but we loved the disco beat)

The Boots|چکمه ها – A Voice from Iran

“173rd story”

First published: Dec.24.2020

Shadi was a daycare teacher for four-year-old kids.

During recess, Shadi was trying to put a kid’s boots on, but as much as she tried, they didn’t fit the kid’s feet.

Shadi then picked up the kid, sat him on the desk, and tried again to fit the boots.

After tiresome trying, the boots were adequate. She put the boy down and,

sighted loudly and was happy that finally it was done.

The boy said: “The boots are on my wrong feet.”

Shadi picked up the boy again and put him on the desk. She pushed and pulled till finally, the boots came off. And carefully, with lots of struggle, put the boots back on his feet, on the correct foot.

The boy said: “These are not my boots.”

Shadi took a deep breath, shook her head, and whispered: “Oh, My God.”

She took the boots off the boy’s feet with grapple again and said: “Okay, love, which boots are yours?”

The boy said: “The ones you took off.”

Shadi was confused and laughed loudly.

“These are my brother’s boots. My mother said I could wear them today.” The boy said.

Shadi put the boots back on the boys’ feet again and said: “Where are your gloves?”

The boy said: “Inside my boots so I wouldn’t lose them. And that’s why the boots seemed smaller and it couldn’t be fitted.”
