IRIN Middle East | Only five percent of pledged aid reaches Gaza | Israel | OPT | Saudi Arabia | Conflict

Contrasting it with pledging conferences for Syria, one UN staffer said the Egyptians had not been sufficiently pro-active.

“When Kuwait organized the conference on Syria the secretariat followed strict procedures to ensure that the money got paid, including inviting donors to meetings. Egypt has done nothing.”

Egyptian officials did not respond to requests for comment.

In fact it was only in mid-January, ahead of a donors’ meeting in March, that Norway formally requested the World Bank to track down how much money had been delivered.

According to Steen Lau Jorgensen, the World Bank’s Country Director for Gaza and the West Bank, the process will “include a report … that will reflect the pledges of Gaza reconstruction disbursed through all channels and the timing for disbursement. It will also assess to what extent the donors have realized their pledges and will break down the list of pledges into budget support and Gaza reconstruction.”

Crow and Raven

As tricksters, Crow and Raven were both generous and shamelessly dishonest, cunning and foolish, brave and ridculous, greedy and resourceful. A fire-bringer story from the Lenape people of Pennsylvania, popularized in the children’s book, Rainbow Crow, tells of Crow’s loss of her beautiful plumage and voice when she is burned while bringing fire to the freezing creatures of earth. The people known as the Crow take their identity from the absaroka, an extinct raven-like bird of the western plains.

Coyote – tricks coyote

In one story, Coyote believes that Creator  is going to change his name in the morning. He goes around bragging to everyone that  he’s going to be renamed Grizzly, chief of the mountain people. To another group, he brags  he’s going to be first at the Creator’s lodge and he’ll be named Salmon, chief of the fish people. On and on he brags. Coyote tries to stay up all night, even puttiing sticks in his eyelids to try and keep his eyes open. Of course, Coyote falls asleep, and when he wakes up, he arrives at Creator’s lodge too late. All the names are gone, but his. But Creator tells him the Coyote is a good name for him, “Soon the human beings, the two-leggeds, will be coming. Coyote, you must make the world ready for them. To do this, I give you two powers. You have the power to create whatever you can imagine . . . and you have the power to come back to life after you die.”

Copenhagen shootings: Benjamin Netanyahu calls for ‘massive immigration’ of European Jews to Israel in wake of attack – Europe – World – The Independent

“knows no limits to playing to the perpetrators of terror and his own to primp for office – will not work any longer”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called for a “massive immigration” of European Jews to Israel following the double shootings in Copenhagen on Saturday.

Two people were shot dead in Copenhagen on Saturday, including a guard outside of a Jewish Community centre who was protecting the entrance of a Bat Mitzvah party.

Speaking at his weekly cabinet meeting in Jerusalem just hours after the attack, Netanyahu proclaimed that, “Jews were killed on European land just because they were Jewish”

He warned that “this wave of attacks will continue” and spoke out to the European Jewish population, saying “Israel is your home.”
