Tony Abbott needs ‘reality check’ over Islam comments, Concetta Fierravanti-Wells says – ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Writing in today’s Australian newspaper, Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs Concetta Fierravanti-Wells described such comments as simplistic and lacking an understanding of the basic facts about Islam.Senator Fierravanti-Wells, who did not refer to Mr Abbott by name, said “megaphone politics” were a potentially dangerous distraction.”Recently we have seen calls for a reformation of Islam. This requires a reality check and some basic facts being instilled into the debate,” she said.”Our neighbour [Bali] is the largest Muslim country, where not only does moderate Islam prevail but the coexistence of the diversity of faiths and tolerance is a good example for others to follow.Media player: “Space” to play, “M” to mute, “left” and “right” to seek.VIDEO: Watch an excerpt of Tony Abbott’s interview (ABC News)”Megaphone politics not only distracts from this, but has implications for our relationships with our neighbours.”

Edward Norton Launches CrowdRise Campaign For Syrian Refugee

Edward Norton: Profile

On Saturday, actor and CrowdRise co-founder Edward Norton launched a fundraiser for a Syrian refugee whose story had gone viral thanks to Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York (HONY) and President Obama.

Stanton shared the CrowdRise fundraiser around 5pm on Saturday evening and within an hour the fundraiser had already raised over $100,000 for the The Scientist, a Syrian refugee featured in his “The Syrian American” series. Since then, the fundraiser has received over 13,000 donations and has raised over $380,000. The average donation to the page is roughly $30. A perfect example of what CrowdRise is about – the power of the crowd to drive impact.

Earlier this week, Norton was moved to tears upon reading the story of an unnamed man, referred to as “The Scientist” who speaks openly about losing his wife, his home, his personal belongings, and fleeing his village.

“I saw the story and was so compelled by it. This man has suffered profound loss that would crush the spirit of many people and yet he still passionately wants a chance to contribute positively to the world. I thought the President’s words were so apt, ’You’re part of what makes America great.’ I wanted to do something to echo that sentiment,” said Norton. “If we don’t welcome people like this into our communities and empower his dream of making an impact with his life, then we’re not the country we tell ourselves we are.”

Donors flocked to the CrowdRise page with encouraging remarks like, “I think this highly educated and virtuous man deserves a chance for better life. I was moved to tears by his story,” and “I hope that you are able to prosper in the United States. We all see that you exist. You have already had a great impact on many of our lives.”

This CrowdRise fundraiser is an example of an ongoing trend of individuals starting fundraisers to assist friends and family through the power of crowdfunding. CrowdRise, the world’s largest platform dedicated exclusively to charitable causes, has recently seen tens of thousands of passionate individuals launch campaigns like Norton’s, to fundraise on behalf of a loved one in need.

Norton’s fundraiser repurposes the story of The Scientist to reflect Stanton’s signature style. Craig Newmark of craigconnects, encouraged donors by offering an additional $10,000 in matching funds to the campaign. Kerry: Without the two state solution, Israel could become “a fortress for terrorists”

PNN/ Bethlehem/

The US Secretary of State in an interview with the New Yorker magazine, has warned that without the two-state solution, “terrorist groups will be strengthened,” and that Israel could be “one big fortress.” Kerry also warned of the collapse of the Palestinian Authority.

According to Israel National News, Kerry told the magazine that he believes that Israel is headed toward becoming a “unitary state that is an impossible entity to manage” and warned that such a reality would lead to Israel becoming like a “big fortress” and strengthen groups like Hezbollah.

He added that he is particularly concerned that the PA could collapse, causing its 30,000 security officers to scatter and leading to chaos and increasingly violent clashes with Israel.

Kerry’s statements came a week after he said that Israel is shifting towards being a “bi-national state.”

In response, the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu said “I want to make clear, Israel will not be a bi-national state,” under claims that the Palestinian Authority “does not want peace” and “calls for incitement” against the occupation.

The jihadist of the Islamic State behead three well-known imams in Mosul – Fides News Agency

Mosul (Agenzia Fides) – The self-styled Islamic State of jihadists (Daesh) beheaded three well-known Sunni imams in Mosul in the public square accused of not obeying orders that forced them to recruit young people for the Jihad. The three imams, known by the local people for their profile of authentic men of God: Kazim Abdulkarim, Bilal al- Sheikh Agha and Abdullah al-Hayalli, had opposed to the atrocities committed by jihadists in the name of their bloody religious ideology. They were killed on Monday, December 14, in front of dozens of people gathered to witness the beheading. On the same day – report local sources to ARA Kurdish News Agency, also Ashwaq al-Nouaymi was murdered, a professor of Mosul who refused to give his students the teachings included in the new school curriculum imposed by Daesh.Already in June 2014, a few days after having conquered Mosul, jihadists of Daesh had killed many Sunni imams of the city, including the Grand Imam, for refusing to swear allegiance to the Islamic Caliphate. The slaughter of the imam in Mosul was virtually ignored by the Western media. All Christians in the second Iraqi city managed to escape, and their houses were expropriated by jihadists.
