a curfew in the prison… a Palestinian story

It all happened in Ramallah. The man is definitely not Hamas or disguised in Hamas. He is a pure Fateh production. He is not going to a school that brainwashes his thoughts. He is not a child actually. He is not a teenager. He is not a desperate Palestinian with any job or salary. The security people are the only secured people when it comes to benefits and salaries.

Collective punishment?

Of course….

Putting a curfew on the prison and close it to those who were allowed visitations.

For a change…

The cynical situation is turning a dramatic. Traumatic turn against all those who have been orchestrating it … Israel and Palestinian leadership that has been benefiting from occupation …

نادية حرحش

I was driving back from Ramallah thinking of how much of a big prison, our life is about. The scene of the wall, the wires, a wall in a wall in another wall. The soldiers and their barrier zones. The internal walls among people that grew higher than the cement built walls. A state of imprisonment. An n occupation so systematic in its approach that everything is eventually falling into the planned perspective.

A perspective that intends to get the people into a state of self-destruction.

By the time you reach the checkpoint, and the visibility of the wall and wires and barrier becomes more and more visible. The scene of people walking between caged pathways to another destination is nothing but a real living image of this reality. Our reality of living in a prison.

And then things erupted confusingly to all sides. I mean of course Palestinian authority…

Getting the Balance Right: Strengthening Asylum Reception Capacity at National and EU Levels | migrationpolicy.org  The bureaucracies answers.

This report, written by the Operational Director for the Belgian reception agency, seeks to understand the reception capacity challenges faced by EU Member States and to stimulate reflection on possible answers. It first presents the three tenets of a successful reception system—flexibility, efficiency, and quality—and the difficulty balancing their often-conflicting demands. It then reflects on divergent national approaches to reception management, and seeks to understand why certain strategies are adopted, and with what consequences for Member States and the Common European Asylum System (CEAS) at large. The report concludes with reflections on the central importance of reception as a building block of the CEAS, and potential ways forward to strengthen its quality, flexibility, and cost efficiency through improved coordination and delivery of support.

IRIN Global | Zika virus takes hold in Colombia | Comoros | Health & Nutrition

Bogotá, 1 February 2016 (IRIN) – Since being infected with the Zika virus a month ago, Wendy Johana Castillo has been experiencing pain all over her body, a recurring fever and a skin rash. But the 23-year-old Colombian is more concerned about her unborn baby. Every 15 days, she has to undergo a scan to make sure her foetus isn’t developing microcephaly, a birth defect that has been linked to the mosquito-borne Zika virus. Babies with the congenital condition are born with abnormally small heads and often suffer from poor brain development. “Doctors advised me not to move much and, if I don’t feel my baby moving in the womb, to rush to the nearest ER,” Castillo told IRIN over the phone from a bed in her cousin’s home in Soacha, on the outskirts of Colombia’s capital, Bogotá. Castillo, who is 19 weeks pregnant, used to work as a janitor at a construction site in Girardot, a tourist town about two and a half hours’ drive from Bogotá. She said her workplace “was surrounded by puddles and infested with mosquitoes”.

www.german-foreign-policy.com refugees

Within the EU, the mounting pressure to ward off refugees, is intensifying the debate about a possible dismantling of the Schengen system. It is yet unclear, whether Berlin can reach its objective of stopping refugees at the external borders of Greece to be immediately deported to Turkey. Alternately, attempts are being made to turn Macedonia into a buffer state against refugees, while threatening Greece’s exclusion from the Schengen system. The establishment of a “Mini-Schengen” is being considered as an emergency solution. Even while officially continuing to reject such a “Mini-Schengen,” the German government is already involved in its planning, which the Netherlands is officially directing. Any option beyond effectively sealing off Greece’s external borders, i.e. abandoning part of the Schengen-system, would be a first retreat – with unforeseeable consequences. According to observers, this could seriously weaken the EU.
