IOF kills a Palestinian-American teen in Ramallah area, Friday

PNN/Ramallah

Israeli soldiers shot and killed on Friday a Palestinian-American teen at an Israeli military checkpoint in the illegal Beit El settlement area after he reportedly attempt to stab an Israeli soldier.

The IOF alleged that the Palestinian boy “was carrying a knife, and attempted to stab soldiers, but they shot him dead before he was able to reach them.” No Israelis were injured during the alleged stab attempt.

The death was confirmed by the Palestinian Ministry of Health who identified the teen as Mahmoud Mohammad Ali Shaalan, 17, from Deir Dibwan town, east of Ramallah.

On Friday evening, the Palestinian Ministry of Civil Affairs said that Mahmoud’s body was returned to his family and taken to Palestine Medical Complex.

The current tension situation is ongoing since October first 2015, due to repetitive Israeli settler attacks on Al-Aqsa mosque, the third holiest place in Islam, and Israeli restrictions over Palestinian entrance, in addition to the Duma arson attack which killed a baby and his parents on July, 31.

Moreover, the IOF has been criticized internationally in recent months for its ‘preemptive shootings’ of Palestinians alleged to be holding knives.

In addition several of the incidents in which the IOF has claimed that they were ‘attacked’ have proven to be false.

Since then, over 180 Palestinians have been killed. More than 15,000 Palestinians have been injured by IOF live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets and teargas.

Some 29 settlers were killed on the Israeli side in Palestinian operatives.

Report: The Republican Party Is A Beautiful, Chaotic Shitshow

Report: The Republican Party Is A Beautiful, Chaotic Shitshow Yesterday, NJ Governor Chris Christie made a major power move by breaking with establishment Republicans and endorsing WWE Hall of Famer Donald Trump as the GOP presidential candidate. If you’re wondering how Christie went from pulling out insulting impersonations of Trump on the campaign trail to rubbing elbows with him, the NY Times has a fascinating, hilarious, and terrifying report from behind-the-scenes of the beautiful shitshow that is the Republican party. Lars von Trier couldn’t have scripted it any better. [ more › ]

UN: We Won’t Have Any Food Once The Bees Are Dead, Just FYI

UN: We Won't Have Any Food Once The Bees Are Dead, Just FYI Bees are rapidly disappearing, a troubling phenomenon scientists have attributed to climate change. And while this does mean fewer kids have to worry about getting stung on the playground, it’s not great news for the world’s food supply—the United Nations says that “hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of crops” are at risk annually thanks to the dwindling bee population. Second Case Of Zika Virus Confirmed In L.A. County: LAist

A pregnant woman from Los Angeles County is infected with Zika virus after traveling abroad, according to a release from the L.A. County Department of Public Health. She’s the second Angeleno to be infected with the virus. The first case was reported in November: a young girl who traveled to El Salvador in November who has since recovered, according the L.A. Times. Though the virus usually presents only minor symptoms, Zika seems to be linked to a surge of microcephaly cases in Brazil. Microcephaly is a birth defect that causes babies to be born with abnormally small heads, leading to brain damage. L.A. County’s Public Health department has issued a travel warning for Angelenos headed to several Latin American and Caribbean countries where Zika infections are more widespread. So far, no one has actually picked up the disease in L.A. However, the Aedes mosquito, the species known to carry the virus, is found throughout the San Gabriel Valley. A total of 14 Californians have been infected with the virus since 2014, including six this year. Like other mosquito transmitted viruses like West Nile, the easiest way to keep risk to a minimum is to eliminate standing water.

Couple Killed By Inglewood Police Were Unconscious When Officers Arrived: LAist

When will it stop?

Upon seeing the unconscious couple in the car, Inglewood Mayor James Butts explained to NBC 4 how “the officers retreated, isolated the vehicle, and spent about 45 minutes attempting to rouse the occupants and to deescalate the situation.” Originally, Inglewood police said officers opened fire on the couple after they noticed the woman had a gun. According to the department, officers ordered both people in the car to exit before taking cover and opening fire. At some point before the shooting, an officer can be heard on a police radio transmission saying the woman had a gun in her right hand. However, it’s still unclear why officers opened fire, or if the couple were even conscious at the time—the department has been mum on the subject. “Obviously at some point they were conscious because somebody felt threatened,” said Inglewood Mayor Butts told KNBC in an effort to explain on his police department’s behalf. A total of seven children survive the two victims: Michael was a single mother of three sons, and Sandlin a single father of four daughters. According to their families, the two were on a date that night.
