Trump to Trudeau in testy tariff call: ‘Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?’ | US news | The Guardian “#TraitorTrump trying out for Dumb and Dumber 3.0?”

In reply, Trump asked, according to CNN: “Didn’t you guys burn down the White House?” The White House did not respond to a request for comment and a Canadian official declined to comment on the record. The White House was burned by British troops in 1814 as part of a failed invasion of the mid-Atlantic, more than 50 years before the signing of Canada’s confederation paved the way for the country to become independent.

Undocumented worker arrested by Ice after delivering pizza to military base

They are so not brave

Man faced background check upon delivery, Brooklyn base says, leading to detention and plans for deportation

An undocumented immigrant faces deportation after he was reported to US immigration authorities and detained while delivering pizza to a military base in Brooklyn last week, in another episode demonstrating the increasingly hostile climate for immigrants under the Trump administration.

Pablo Villavicencio, a father of two from Ecuador, remains in Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) custody, and authorities plan to remove him from the country, an Ice spokesperson said.

Detaining nonfasting people in Ramallah

نادية حرحش

This is really scandalous!

While Israel kills a Palestinian young man in the village of Nabi Saleh, not far from Ramallah. The PA forces arrest around thirty people sitting in a cafe in the city center of Ramallah. Not only were the detainees accused of not fasting, but also with gambling.

The public shame that took place in the city center, when three police vehicles came and arrested the people is unforgivable.

What are they different from Hamas Islamic governance? What would have they said if Hamas did the same in Gaza?

I seriously feel speechless… embarrassed …. to admit that this is really taking place.

Then we blame Daesh?

We blame fundamentalism?

What do you call this?

How do you want people to live in a place where they don’t even have the freedom to eat or not to eat when they want?

Ramallah and all other cities are not cities…

Ramallah and all other cities are not cities inhabited by Muslims only. And Muslims as well may not fast.

Fasting is obligatory for those who want to fast. The rest is peoples choice and responsibility before God .. not before the government…

The most radical thing you can say in Israel

The Knesset won’t even allow this law to be discussed, let alone voted on, because it proposes making Israel a ‘state of all its citizens.’ Why is that so threatening?

The presidium of the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, decided on Monday that a proposed law seeking to define Israel as “a state of all its citizens” is so far outside the acceptable political discourse that it cannot even be submitted to the legislature for debate.

[tmwinpost]

The bill — a proposed Basic Law, the closest thing Israel has to constitutional amendments in a country without a constitution — sought to enshrine the principle of equality, recognize the existence of two national groups within Israel, create separation of religion and state, and most importantly: define Israel as a democratic state that belongs to all of its citizens.

Why is such a proposition so radical? Simply put, because it seeks to end the current situation, in which Israel is not, in fact, a country that belongs to all of its citizens — specifically, not to the 20 percent of Israeli citizens who are not Jewish.

In a letter in support of the decision to disqualify the bill from being submitted, the Knesset’s legal advisor wrote: “The proposed ‘Basic Law: State of All its Citizens’ includes a series of clauses meant to change the character of the State of Israel from the state of the Jewish people to a state in which the Jewish and Arab peoples have equal standing.”

What a radical proposition.

The following my translation of the bill, put forth by the Balad party, which was stricken down by the Knesset presidium. Judge for yourself just how radical it is. Think about what kind of country it describes. And think about what it means that a country belongs to only some of its citizens.
