Unseen   – Kaushal Kishore

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

I write with fervor, letting my words take flight,

Of someone unaware, hidden from the sight…

Others read my words, not knowing the face,

A hidden audience, in a secret, quiet space…

.

A Woman Who Gave Birth To Three Children And Four Animals – Septuplets, but with a twist. Useful genealogy resource.

Airman Accounted For From World War II – Welcome home, Staff Sgt. Hubert Yeary. Honored to have assisted with your identification.

The Quest for Annie Moore of Ellis Island – 133 years ago today, Annie Moore of Ireland became the first immigrant to arrive at Ellis Island. 🗽 150 years since her birth and 100 years since her passing, it’s long past time to tell her story. Learn more in “The Quest for Annie Moore of Ellis Island.”

Genealogy Classic: If You’re a Wee Bit Irish – Not long ago, I was persuaded to republish a 2002 article I wrote about genetic genealogy, and much to my surprise, readers loved it. After that experience, I decided to take an occasional dive into my archives and re-share selected old favorites. Some are timeless in nature, but even those that are dated, have some useful insights. I hope you’ll enjoy my “Genealogy Classics.”

The Guardian view on content moderation: Meta did far too little. Now it wants to do even less | Editorial | The Guardian

Mark Zuckerberg famously boasted that Facebook had a saying: “Move fast and break things”. His product has not just destroyed industry models but also social mores and expectations of the reliability of information and, in the global south, has upended people’s lives. The technology writer Kara Swisher described him as “not just a technologist; he’s a social engineer”.

Meta’s Tuesday announcement shows that it still moves at speed. Having previously been pressured into insufficient improvements in moderation, it is abruptly scrapping factcheckers on platforms including Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, starting in the US, and loosening other content restrictions. This purportedly addresses overreach by moderators. Other controls remain. But the signal is clear. Its new guidelines will allow users to call others mentally ill on the basis of their sexuality or gender identity. Meta will also “recommend more political content based on … personalized signals” – which sounds a lot like buttressing echo chambers.
