German neo-Nazi doomsday prepper network ′ordered body bags, made kill lists′ | Germany| News and in-depth reporting from Berlin and beyond | DW | 29.06.2019

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency says a conspiracy of neo-Nazis compiled a list of political opponents and ordered 200 body bags and quicklime in preparation for a potential collapse of state order, named “Day X.” Most of the more than 30 preppers, who called themselves Nordkreuz (Northern Cross), were associated with Germany’s police and military, including several former and one active member of the elite forces unit of the state police of Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania.

The BfV also believes that the group, which communicated via the messenger app Telegram, was preparing for Day X with “enormous intensity,” and had used data from police computers to compile a list of 25,000 names and addresses.

These mostly belonged to local politicians from Germany’s main political parties, the Christian Democrats, Social Democrats, Greens, and the Left party. All of of the politicians were considered supporters of “pro-refugee” policies.

Heatwave cooks mussels in their shells on California shore

Temperatures lead to what appears to be largest local die-off in 15 years, raising fears for broader ecosystem

In all her years working at Bodega Bay, the marine reserve research coordinator Jackie Sones had never seen anything like it: scores of dead mussels on the rocks, their shells gaping and scorched, their meats thoroughly cooked.

A record-breaking June heatwave apparently caused the largest die-off of mussels in at least 15 years at Bodega Head, a small headland on the northern California bay. And Sones received reports from other researchers of similar mass mussel deaths at various beaches across roughly 140 miles of coastline.

When Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez met Greta Thunberg: ‘Hope is contagious’

2901.jpg?width=300&quality=85&auto=forma

One is America’s youngest-ever congresswoman, the other a Swedish schoolgirl. Two of the most powerful voices on the climate speak for the first time

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez enters a boardroom at her constituency office in Queens, New York, after a short delay which, a political aide hopes, hasn’t been caused by a constituent waylaying her in the corridor. (“They can get really excited to meet her.”) Greta Thunberg is in her home in Sweden, her father testing the technology for the video link while the teenager waits in the background. The activists have never met nor spoken but, as two of the most visible climate campaigners in the world, they are keenly aware of each other.

Thunberg, now 16, catapulted to fame last year for skipping school every Friday to stand outside the Swedish parliament, protesting against political inaction over the climate crisis and sparking an international movement, the school strike for climate, in which millions of other children followed suit. Ocasio-Cortez, the Democratic Representative for New York’s 14th congressional district is, at 29, the youngest woman ever to serve in Congress, whose election over a well-funded incumbent in 2018 was a huge upset to politics-as-usual. She has been in office for less than a year, which seems extraordinary given the amount of coverage she has generated. In February, Ocasio-Cortez submitted the Green New Deal to the US House of Representatives, calling for, among other things, the achievement of “net-zero” greenhouse gases within a decade and “a full transition off fossil fuels”, as well as retrofitting all buildings in the US to meet new energy efficient standards.

Saudi crown prince doing ‘spectacular job’: Trump

A friend who murders journalists – Loser Trump US President Donald Trump Saturday praised Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. “You have done a spectacular job,” Trump told the powerful crown prince, referring to him as “a friend of mine”. The young royal has faced international pressure after US-based dissident Saudi writer Jamal Khashoggi was murdered in the kingdom’s consulate in Istanbul last year.

Calling the French ‘turds’ shows Boris Johnson is the eternal spoilt 15-year-old | Stephen Moss

4792.jpg?width=300&quality=85&auto=forma

The would-be prime minister’s racist vulgarity is childish – and reveals the nostalgia for empire that underpinned Brexit

If you were seeking to be positive about the likely premiership of Boris Johnson – which is absolutely not my intention – you might liken him to one of his predecessors as foreign secretary and prime minister, Lord Palmerston, who dominated British politics in the 1850s and 60s and, for all his foibles (and sexual excesses), was much loved by the public.

The similarities in their worldviews are striking. Palmerston was popular because his politics were founded on foreigner-bashing. His vision of the world was simple: Britain had perfected the art of democracy and was entitled to impose its views on everyone else. As one historian has noted, the “ideological strand to Palmerston’s diplomacy … appealed to the aggressive national chauvinism that was such an important component of the mid-Victorian psyche”.

Megan Rapinoe Will Not Visit Donald Trump At The White House, She Cannot Make This Any Clearer

Megan Rapinoe does not want to go to the White House. Megan Rapinoe does not want to go to the White House if the U.S. Women’s National Team wins the World Cup, because Donald Trump is the president. She does not want to visit Donald Trump because of his record and statements on racial issues, gender issues, LGBTQ issues, immigration, sexual harassment, sexual assault—take your pick, or pick all of them: If there’s a marginalized group, the president has said or done something to degrade it, marginalize it further, or outright harm it. Megan Rapinoe disagrees with all of this, because she appears to be a decent human being, and doesn’t really want to hang out with Trump because of that. This seems pretty clear-cut.
