COVID-19 deaths deemed likely to climb even as states reopen | CIDRAP

“People are letting their guard down a little bit more, people are back at work after an August recess, and then you can see this slow simmer explode into a new epidemic or a large outbreak,” said Scott Gottlieb, MD on CBS’ “Face The Nation.” Gottlieb was the former Food and Drug Administration commissioner.  “That’s the concern, that if we don’t snuff this out more, and you have this slow burn of infection, it can ignite at any time.”

Trump tells desperate Alabama woman who is inches from eviction ‘you’re going to get a better job’ – Raw Story

In perhaps the most callous example of disconnectedness, President Donald Trump told an Alabama woman desperate for help that everything will be fine. Trump Administration Doubles Coronavirus Daily Death Toll (and urges go back to normal – WTF?)

On Wednesday, April 29, Zorak impersonator Jared Kushner claimed that the country would be “back to normal” by June, even as armed shut-down protests and the pandemic ravaged the country. On Fox and Friends, he boldly declared: “I think you’ll see by June that a lot of the country should be back to normal, and the hope is that by July the country’s really rocking again.” A strange declaration, really, considering internal documents from the administration project an increase in covid-19 cases during the summer, anticipating almost 3000 daily deaths in June, and 200,000 new cases each day by the end of the month.

(Off his medications again?) “Frankly, I would call it forcibly imprisoning people in their homes against all their constitutional rights, in my opinion,” he said. “Breaking peoples’ freedoms in ways that are horrible and wrong and not why people came to America or built this country. What the f***?

Coronavirus: Remdesivir is no miracle cure | Science| In-depth reporting on science and technology | DW | 04.05.2020

In the two studies, the active substance remdesivir has clearly proven to be moderately effective. It reduces the death rate slightly but not really significantly. And it reduces the duration of the disease by a few days. Although this is encouraging, it is far from being the resounding success that many had hoped for from the most promising drug candidate to date.
