Fauci pushes back on hydroxychloroquine study touted by Trump – The study, conducted by Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, has been promoted by President Trump and conservatives as proof the antimalarial drug can treat the coronavirus.
But the study was noncontrolled and retrospective, Fauci said, opening it up to potential bias. Patients also received corticosteroids, which have been proven to reduce death in COVID-19 patients, further clouding the effects of hydroxychloroquine.
“That study is a flawed study,” Fauci said.

The test results showed that the vaccine of Kazakhstani scientists meets all WHO requirements. “The institute is also conducting trials of a vaccine on primates, whose antibody titer has also demonstrated high immunogenicity. Immediately after the completion of preclinical vaccines, clinical trials of the vaccine will begin. The institute is developing three more vaccines on different platforms: subunit, vector and live vaccines against COVID-19,” the ministry said.

By deliberately referring to Covid-19 as the “Chinese virus” or “kung flu,” President Donald Trump is endangering people of Asian descent by fueling anti-Asian racism and xenophobia. This flies in the face of best practice guidelines issued by the World Health Organization to discourage unintended stigmatization when naming infectious diseases. Trump should stop using language that could be encouraging harassment, discrimination, and violence.
The federal government needs to take action. Unlike following the 9/11 attacks on the US and the SARS outbreak, neither the US Department of Justice nor the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has acted, respectively, to prevent anti-Asian racism and xenophobia. A July 20 letter from a bipartisan group of 150 members of Congress, led by Representative Ted Lieu, has called on the Justice Department to condemn and combat anti-Asian discrimination.

While nearly 30 states mandate temporary school closures, only half of Texas school districts order students to stay home after spring break. Gov. Greg Abbott gives cities, counties, school districts and universities the discretion to respond to the virus however they see fit. Over the weekend, Abbott says he is confident that cities will make the best decisions for their communities. Abbott also activates the Texas National Guard to help with coronavirus efforts and suspends part of the Texas Open Meetings Act.

Gov. Greg Abbott tells Texans to stay at home for the next month unless they are taking part in essential services and activities. He declines to call his latest executive order a shelter-in-place or stay-at-home order, arguing such labels leave the wrong impression and that he wants Texans to know, for example, they can still go to the grocery store. He also closes schools until at least May 4.

Gov. Greg Abbott announces initial steps to reopen Texas businesses during the coronavirus pandemic, including a plan for the next week to loosen surgery restrictions at medical facilities, allow all retail stores to provide product pickups and reopen state parks. He also announces that public and private school classrooms will remain closed for the remainder of the school year to avoid quickening the spread of COVID-19.
Restaurants, retail outlets and movie theaters are allowed to reopen at 25% occupancy in Texas after being closed for weeks to fight the spread of the virus.

Under pressure from educators terrified for their safety the TEA later revised guidance to give districts up to eight weeks to limit in-person instruction and slowly increase the number of students they brought back. They also clarified that local school boards could push back their start dates and allowed districts to offer hybrid in-person and remote instruction for high school students to reduce the number of students on campus at once.
In the meantime, local health authorities, watching their cases rise, issued a series of orders banning schools from offering in-person instruction through August, or in some cases September. While some school superintendents were glad to have the local orders, and the additional flexibility from the state, other public and private school leaders were upset to be banned from offering in-person instruction.

Hacker to Twitter employee: “Hi, I’m new to the department and I’ve locked myself out of the Twitter internal portal, can you do me a huge favour and give me the login again?”
The fact that Twitter staff were susceptible to these basic attacks is embarrassing for a company built on being at the forefront of digital technology and internet culture.

Twitter said the initial spear-phishing attempt happened on 15 July – the same day the accounts were compromised, suggesting the accounts were accessed within hours.
“This attack relied on a significant and concerted attempt to mislead certain employees and exploit human vulnerabilities to gain access to our internal systems,” the company said.
