COVID-19 Vaccination Distribution Plan – Montana

The plan states that Phase 1b will begin in mid-January and continue through March. Phase 1b includes an estimated 90,000 Montanans, such as persons aged 75 years old or older, frontline essential workers, those residing in congregate care and correctional facilities, and American Indians and other people of color who may be at elevated risk for COVID-19. County Reports Record 62 COVID-19 Deaths, 3,083 New Cases | KPBS (San Diego, CA)

The county is reporting 18% of its ICU beds remain available, but staffing limitations may make that a considerably smaller portion.

Regional hospitals have reported a 120% increase in the number of patients with COVID-19 hospitalized and a 91% increase in the number of patients sent to ICUs in the same time frame.

Hawaii’s ‘Complicated’ COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Will Be Slow To Start – Honolulu Civil Beat

The state received a total of 65,250 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines in 2020, down from the 81,825 doses it expected to get. The rest of the vaccine doses will arrive on a delayed schedule sometime after Jan. 1.

According to the state’s vaccination plan, an estimated 46,000 people in Hawaii will be offered the vaccine in the first phase, including hospital and nursing home workers, first responders and others who work in settings that put them at a higher risk for coming into contact with bodily fluids or aerosols.

The next group will include people of all ages with health conditions that make them more vulnerable to severe bouts of COVID-19, followed by thousands of elderly Hawaii residents who live in communal settings.

It will likely be at least six months before Hawaii has a sufficient supply to offer vaccines to 70% of the state’s 1.4 million population — the benchmark that officials intend to reach.

Spiraling COVID-19 deaths leave morgues overflowing and funeral homes turning away grieving families – Los Angeles Times

Single-day COVID-19 death records have been broken every day for the last three days of the year, with 242 deaths reported Tuesday, 262 on Wednesday and 291 on New Year’s Eve.

The sheer number of fatalities is causing more challenges to already overwhelmed hospitals and other institutions. Many hospital morgues are now filled with bodies, and officials are trying to move them for temporary storage at the county medical examiner-coroner’s office.

The Brain in a Jar

Saania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

There is a rather nutty theory in Science and Philosophy known as the Brain in a Vat or the Brain in a Jar theory. In this thought experiment, we imagine a mad scientist creating a machine into which he can place a human brain. This machine is called a “brain vat”. The brain vat keeps the brain alive, and it also allows the scientist to create virtual stimuli and feed these into the brain. Hence, the brain kept inside can experience these stimuli in the same way in which a normal human sensory system does. Doing this, the scientist can create an entirely fictitious world that feels completely normal to the brain held captive. This sounds eminently creepy to me!

But the idea of the Brain in a Vat (or the Brain in a Jar) theory is that no brain could ever know whether it is affixed inside a skull…

In the heart of the tropical jungle! – “The magic of the Amazon The adventures of Meromi, a Yanomami girl”

Barbara Crane Navarro

Emel Mathlouthi – Liberta – 2/10/2017 – Paste Studios, New York, NY – YouTube

Fan translation of lyrics: We start talking from the bottom (people) to the top (governors). [If you] Close your ears, don’t listen, ignore, i’ll use a megaphone. Living in life, like a statue, that doesn’t sell anything in the market. Open that mouth, speak, freedom, your tongue free. Your tongue is FREE ! This is my country, i speak within it, i ain’t crazy. This is my country, i speak within it, i ain’t crazy! Where is freedom when you see the prisons (torture). The police is drowning in money, as they sell the law. Where is the press? Where? Where are the people? Where? Where is the television? Where are the intellectuals? Where are the people? Where are you, O scholar! In every shop you find the picture of the boss (politicians). Paper.. Pen, Against the wind.. Against the wind.. Paper.. Pen, Against the wind.. Against the wind! Don’t hide, what you think is right, what you think is right. Lot of pits, be careful to fall down. Live tough, stay strong, STRONG! stand on your dignity! Speak, talk, discuss, tell, LIBERTA! LIBERTA!
