NYSE scraps plan to delist Chinese telecom firms in ‘bizarre’ U-turn | The Japan Times

Being a good person today requires thought and work. The moral intuitions that evolved during many millennia of living in small, face-to-face societies are no longer adequate. Our actions now — or our failure to act — affect people all over the world and people who will live on this planet for many centuries to come.

That means we face moral choices all the time. Global problems like climate change, extreme poverty, the cruel confinement of billions of animals in factory farms, overfishing of the oceans, and of course the pandemic raise complex questions about how we should spend our money, how much of it we should give to help others, what we should eat, and how we should use our abilities to influence others and our governments. Moral codes written thousands of years ago are silent about climate change, and usually say nothing, or very little, about protecting the environment, the treatment of animals, and how we should exercise our responsibilities as citizens in a democracy.

Here’s why these promoters say livestream concerts are here to stay – San Gabriel Valley Tribune

With big-name artists on board, the possibilities are seemingly limitless for live stream concerts in the future.

Even post-pandemic, Adler said that streaming is something artists should seriously consider adding to their normal business model since it’s a cost-effective way to serve the currently underserved live events markets around the world. The NoCap livestreams also include a chatroom feature in which fans can interact with each other and the artists are also able to hop on and converse as well.

For now, the average ticket price for a NoCap show is $15, but there are numerous add-on options. Patrons can shop for artist merch while watching the livestream on their smartphone, tablet, laptop or television. They can also choose from a variety of V.I.P. experiences like one-on-one meet-and-greets, group meet-and-greets and small group private acoustic shows. Of course, that all comes at an additional cost, which is negotiated with artist management.

Adler said the extra charges are not about being greedy: It takes a lot of work to put on a live show and creative content should be monetized, as it is keeping the artists, the crew, the technical folks and venues in business.

Avian Flu Diary: FDA Statement On Following the Authorized Dosing Schedules for COVID-19 Vaccines

at this time, suggesting changes to the FDA-authorized dosing or schedules of these vaccines is premature and not rooted solidly in the available evidence. Without appropriate data supporting such changes in vaccine administration, we run a significant risk of placing public health at risk, undermining the historic vaccination efforts to protect the population from COVID-19.

The available data continue to support the use of two specified doses of each authorized vaccine at specified intervals. For the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, the interval is 21 days between the first and second dose. And for the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, the interval is 28 days between the first and second dose.

We have committed time and time again to make decisions based on data and science. Until vaccine manufacturers have data and science supporting a change, we continue to strongly recommend that health care providers follow the FDA-authorized dosing schedule for each COVID-19 vaccine.

Covid ‘Decimated Our Staff’ as the Pandemic Ravages Health Workers of Color | Kaiser Health News

Last spring, New Jersey emergency room nurse Maritza Beniquez saw “wave after wave” of sick patients, each wearing a look of fear that grew increasingly familiar as the weeks wore on.

Soon, it was her colleagues at Newark’s University Hospital — the nurses, techs and doctors with whom she had been working side by side — who turned up in the ER, themselves struggling to breathe. “So many of our own co-workers got sick, especially toward the beginning; it literally decimated our staff,” she said.

By the end of June, 11 of Beniquez’s colleagues were dead. Like the patients they had been treating, most were Black and Latino.

“We were disproportionately affected because of the way that Blacks and Latinos in this country have been disproportionately affected across every [part of] our lives — from schools to jobs to homes,” she said.

Now Beniquez feels like a vanguard of another kind. On Dec. 14, she became the first person in New Jersey to receive the coronavirus vaccine — and was one of many medical workers of color featured prominently next to headlines heralding the vaccine’s arrival at U.S. hospitals.

To Josh Hawley, Peaceful Protesters Are ‘Antifa Scumbags’

On Monday night, in response to Hawley’s bold anti-democratic move, a small group of protesters from the group ShutDownDC paid a visit to his home in Vienna, Virginia and held what they called a “vigil for democracy.” According to a video posted by the group, the protesters held signs with messages like “You don’t have the votes” and “Trump lost;” chanted slogans like “Hawley, Hawley, shame on you, Biden-Harris won through and through;” and read messages through a bullhorn from voters who are upset that Hawley is, as one activist put it, “trying to undermine democracy.” At one point during the vigil, three of the protesters walked up to the door of Hawley’s home and left a copy of the Constitution; at the end of the 30-minute action, they propped up some signs against a tree, left some candles, and thanked the police officers who were there.

Honestly, pretty tame stuff! As Patrick Young, one of the organizers, told the Washington Post, “This was not threatening behavior. This is people engaging in democracy and engaging in civil discourse.”

But to Hawley, these activists are “Antifa scumbags” who “threatened” his wife and daughter and engaged in “leftwing violence,” by which I can only assume he means every person’s right to engage in peaceful protest. (And as we all know, “Antifa” loves the Constitution as well as Joe Biden.)

Putin and Merkel discuss joint production of coronavirus vaccine — Meduza – (Vaccine diplomacy – US not in the running)

In December 2020, the Russian Health Ministry announced that Germany was prepared to cooperate with Russia on the production of Russian vaccines against the coronavirus, though the department didn’t specify which drugs were under discussion. Russia has two registered vaccines against COVID-19: the Gamaleya Research Institute’s “Sputnik V” and the Vector Research Center’s “EpiVacCorona.”
