El Paso immigration advocacy groups prepare for ‘Remain in Mexico’ changes | KTSM 9 News

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Beginning next week, the Biden administration will begin processing 25,000 asylum seekers who’ve been waiting their claims out in Mexico under the Trump administration’s Migrant Protection Protocol, or the “Remain in Mexico” policy.

This change will allow those processed to wait out their court dates in the United States; however, it only applies to those currently in the program and not those who’ve had their cases terminated or already have deportation orders.

Local immigration advocacy groups are planning for that change as officials say about 300 migrants are expected to be processed per day. Melissa Lopez, the executive director of the Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services, said the community will play a pivotal role in the execution of the changes.

Health minister eagerly awaits completion of field hospital in Western Jamaica

“I think it (field hospital) will be a very important addition to the COVID ward capacity that we need in the region. I looked at the numbers this (yesterday) morning on my way here, and as attested by the regional director, Errol Greene, we are under pressure in the region. There is 90 per cent (occupancy) or a little over 90 per cent of our COVID wards. It’s the highest it has been since we have had to deal with COVID in the region,” Dr Tufton cited.  “It is certainly higher than the national average of 85 per cent.  So Western Jamaica is under pressure. And at this rate, if we continue to see increases in numbers of COVID cases, you are likely to see increases of hospitalisation because the two are related and then from there you are likely to see greater burden on the public health system,” he added.

Lebanon receives first Covid vaccines – France 24

Lebanon on Saturday received its first vaccines against the coronavirus, a day before an inoculation drive kicks off in the crisis-hit Mediterranean country.

A plane landed at the Beirut airport, an AFP correspondent reported, with authorities saying it was carrying 28,500 doses of Pfizer/BioNTech flown in from Belgium.

The shipment was the first after the World Bank allocated $34 million to inoculate two million of Lebanon’s six million inhabitants.

Liberia: Polio outbreak declared as National Public Health Emergency – Outbreak News Today

In remarks at a news conference on February 4, 2021, the  Minister of Health promised that her administration would move with deliberate speed in ensuring that children from zero to fifty-nine-month old are vaccinated and registered for national birth certification.

“This exercise will be a door-to-door because we do not have to miss any child. We will be going from door-to-door making sure that each child is vaccinated in your home. There will be a lot more coverage on it so you can know when we coming and who will be coming to your homes. Coupled with that exercise, we want to make sure that children births are registered. So this will us be the opportunity to be able to register all of the children and make sure that they have birth certificates. So two things that will be done: we will make sure kids are protected and vaccinated, and then we will make sure that the birth is registered.”

Dr Jallah urged all Liberians, babies’ mothers as well as local and international stakeholders to work with the Ministry to defeat the spread of the virus in the Country.

“This virus being circulating within the public about a year so we are ready to move things forward quickly to protected the Children. So therefore, all of our teams are ready and we want to bring it to the public officially to let them know that this virus is in the country and the action that will be taken going forward,” she concluded.

Bats & pangolins in Southeast Asia harbour SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses, reveals new study – Outbreak News Today

While the World Health Organization (WHO) continues its mission to Wuhan investigating the origin and early transmission of SARS-CoV-2, a new study led by scientists from Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore, and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, shows that SARS-CoV-2-related coronaviruses (SC2r-CoVs) are circulating in animals as far away as Thailand. The study, published in Nature Communications today, reported that high levels of neutralising antibodies against the virus were present in both bats and pangolins found in the Southeast Asian country. The study further indicates that more SC2r-CoVs are likely to be discovered in the region. Southeast Asia with its large and diverse bat populations may be a more likely hotspot for such viruses.

In the study, the team examined Rhinolophus bats in a Thai cave. SARS-CoV-2 neutralising antibodies were detected in bats of the same colony and in a pangolin at a wildlife checkpoint in Southern Thailand.

There is so much to see and do in the world. We can not do anything even if we want to. But,we can also do a lot within our limits. Limits do not always stop. The problem is not through having boundaries, not knowing them. On working, it is known that the real limit is in our own mind. — My experience

We all have our limits. But is it right to throw all your failures at those limits? The problem is that we do not even do what we can. A lot of big things can be created in the realm of boundaries. Actually, the boundaries tell us what we can do, what we can do […]
