Deadly violence as Myanmar security forces shoot into anti-coup protest

A police raid on a shipyard in Myanmar’s second-largest city turned violent on Saturday when authorities fired live rounds at protesters gathering to stop arrests, killing two people and injuring several more, emergency workers said.

Weekend Stories by Trishikh

Bipin Bihari Choudharee belonged to a very particular breed of endangered Bengalis. A dying pedigree reminiscent of the bygone days of the Zamindars and ‘babu-culture’. A typical Bong in many ways and unique in some very distinctive traits. Residing in his ancestral home – a dying palatial facade in Goabagan, north Kolkata, Bipin had never left the ‘City of Joy’.

The septuagenarian led a very routined life. His day began at four every morning through the ritualistic gargling with saline water, which according to his wife Mrinalini, could raise the dead from its burning pyre. This was followed by a voluntarily induced vomiting caused by deep throat fingering – The yogic cleansing act of Kunjal Kriya. It produced one of the weirdest sounds that no one would desire to hear at the break of dawn every morning.

Bipin was a highly superstitious and religious man. Right…

February 19, 2021 – Letters from an American – Biden at Munich Security (Virtual) meeing

In his speech, Biden emphasized not just the importance of democracy, but also how much work it is to keep it. “Democracy doesn’t happen by accident,” he said. “We have to defend it, fight for it, strengthen it, renew it. We have to prove that our model isn’t a relic of our history; it’s the single best way to revitalize the promise of our future.”

He did indeed sound like FDR when he concluded: “if we work together with our democratic partners, with strength and confidence, I know that we’ll meet every challenge and outpace every challenger.”

Some of us don’t know who we are because we clothe ourselves according to how we want to be depicted by our family, our friends, acquaintances and colleagues. We need to look at ourselves with a microscopic eye and unearth all of our feelings of inadequacy. Living without pretensions is the greatest gift we can offer ourselves. We are here to fulfill the mission of creating a more perfect and harmonious Universe, let’s do it.

Unlocking The Hidden Me

#poetry

I hear that song that we sang all summer long

We sweltered but got so very well along

That flavorful creamy ice

And oh that joyous joy ride

Just an axial tilt of the earth and my summer transformed

The beautiful green leaves started to turn brown

When you considered yourself wearing that invisible crown

Those solemn promises to live by

And oh those pearls of laughter from deep inside

Just a drip in temperature and autumn stopped by

We lived our summers but tripped our fall

And tough it is to smile through the winters squall

That pure white snow covered all over

And oh those tea and fritters that we used to wolf down

Just went aloof when the sun hid under the moon

Melodies of robins and the return of monarch butterflies

How they smell the cut grass and come to claim their prize

That elliptical…

The Enchanted Forest

Saania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

Not far from sight,
Lies a forest I’ve never seen
The trees and the bushes
Glimmeringly green

I take tiny steps
As I walk into the mist
To a world of enchantment
That I never knew could exist

The day has begun
With the sun wide awake
The endearing tweeting of birds
The dawn chorus they create

Sweet-scented berries
Giving a delectable forest scent
Squirrels scampering down trees
To try some of them

Cheerful rabbits
With their fur, snow white
With their tiny pink noses
They frolic in delight

I pick up a flower
With a silky white petal
It’s alluring fragrance
Leaves me in an Elysian fettle

Behind a lush tree
Of a juicy blue berry
Lies a jewel-clear river,
A world of faery

Not a speck of dust
Seen in the pristine blue tint
The scintillating sun kissed water
Giving out its gorgeous golden glint

It burbles all…

Que considérez-vous comme «offensant»? — Barbara Crane Navarro

«Les mineurs d’or creusent partout comme des cochons sauvages. Les rivières de la forêt ne seront bientôt plus que des remous fangeux, pleins de boue, d’huile à moteur et de déchets. Ils lavent également leur poudre d’or dans les ruisseaux, la mélangeant avec du mercure. Toutes ces choses sales et dangereuses rendent les eaux malades […]

EU condemns Belarus repressions — EUROPE DIPLOMATIC

The EU strongly condemns the repression carried out by the Belarusian authorities since the falsified elections of August 2020. The unacceptable harassment of human rights defenders, media workers, trade union representatives, and defence lawyers has escalated in recent days. A court in Belarus has sentenced two journalists to two years in prison after they filmed […]
