Conquering and learning

Saania's diary - reflections, learnings, sparkles

Life is all about reaching your goals and trying your best to achieve them, as I talked about on my 16th post -“Purpose of Life”. However, reaching any goal takes effort and hard work and you will make mistakes along the way, that behave like obstacles between your path to success. With these obstacles, people often stop and give up, there is this fear that holds them back from trying. However, it is quite cliché but it’s important to learn from your mistakes – and get over those obstacles. They give you an opportunity- Firstly accept the mistake, learn from the mistake and then try again, and it’s totally up to you if you want to ignore it or if you want to open the door to hope in getting even better. A goal can be as small as getting an A in a class test or as big…

CRAIN'S COMMENTS

Laurel Wamsley of NPR poses an interesting question. It’s akin to the ancient pacifist question, “what if the politicians declared a war and no one showed up?”

Offices closed in March 2020 with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The shutdown was painful for many, but scientists agree that it saved a large number of lives, despite the absurd number of deaths the US experienced. Things could have been much worse.

And we could be tested again. We are in the middle of an “arms race” between the vaccine makers and the virus. It seems likely that this will be a continuing war of attrition — Afghanistan writ large — unless one side or the other produces a super weapon of some kind.

Both brains and the housing market were thrown into disarray. Most people were unprepared emotionally for isolation. The desire for someone to blame inflamed racism and made…

Hatra, Irak – Hatra, Iraq — Myrela

Hatra, Irak – Hatra, Iraq — Myrela

As a crossroads on the road between the Orient and the Mediterranean, Hatra was not an attractive target only for the Romans, so its progress did not last long. In 238, the city was attacked by the Persian king Ardashir I, and only three years later it was captured by the army of Shapur, the Sassanid king who did not hesitate to completely destroy the city. However, that short period of splendor left behind exceptional examples of sculpture that reveal Greek, Roman and Persian influences. In an incomparable mix of styles and cultures, statues of Hatra deities intertwine with statues of Poseidon, Eros, Hermes, Apollo and Hercules depicted wearing the skin of a Nemean lion, and there are sovereigns and other important personalities of the kingdom. Most of these statues and sculptures are now housed in the National Museum in Baghdad and in a museum in Mosul. The hope remains that they will be spared in possible war actions.

Le pagine dei nostri libri | E’ solo un punto di vista – Save the last dance for me

Save the last dance for me

You can dance every dance with the guy
Who gives you the eye, let him hold you tight
You can smile every smile for the man
Who held your hand ‘neath the pale moonlight

But don’t forget who’s taking you home
And in whose arms you’re gonna be
So darlin’, save the last dance for me, mmm

Choose simple words or expressions over complicated or convoluted ones. Be concise. Be parsimonious in the number of words used to narrate a given situation. Words are like diamonds: when set properly they sparkle beautifully; when overused they become tawdry and boring. Consider each word as a cost: fewer words, less cost… Source: Writing | SoundEagle 🦅ೋღஜஇ

Lebanon on edge: As crisis deepens, where to from here? – The Debate

Lebanon has seen the value of its currency plunge 85 percent in less than two years. Experts say the Lebanese financial meltdown could pose the biggest threat to stability since the 15-year civil war, which came to an end in 1990. More than half the population is now living below the poverty line. Wages have been slashed and prices are soaring. Adding to the despair, there seems to be no government plan in sight.

There have been growing signs of unrest in recent days: protesters have been setting up roadblocks and burning tyres. With the economic collapse, reported robberies are up 57 percent with people trying to steal food, baby formula or medicine. There’s also been an uptick in carjackings and the murder rate has jumped 91 percent in the space of a year.
