Biden reverses Trump order barring immigrants who cannot afford healthcare  | TheHill

“My Administration is committed to expanding access to quality, affordable healthcare,” Biden’s proclamation states. “We can achieve that objective, however, without barring the entry of noncitizens who seek to immigrate lawfully to this country but who lack significant financial means or have not purchased health insurance coverage from a restrictive list of qualifying plans.”

Biden ordered leaders at the departments of State, Health and Human Services, and Homeland Security to “review any regulations, orders, guidance documents, policies, and any other similar agency actions developed pursuant to” the 2019 proclamation and issue “revised guidance” as appropriate that reflects his own policy.

Coup Leader Brought Myanmar to Its Knees to Sustain a Failed Political Dream

Everyone wants a sustainable life, a sustainable economy, a sustainable environment and a sustainable country. For the people of Myanmar, however, those ambitions were dashed when the military staged a coup on Feb. 1. But the man who shattered an entire country seems satisfied with the purported “sustainability” he has created, presiding over the disaster in a place he has no right to be—the Presidential Residence.

One of the first actions coup leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing took a few days after he staged his coup was to forcibly move democratically elected President U Win Myint from the Presidential Residence to another location, also in Naypyitaw, where he was placed under house arrest. Right after that, the general and his wife held a traditional house warming party with five Buddhist monks in the residence’s Ngu Shwe Wah Hall. Since then, sources close to the military’s top circle have revealed, the coup leader and his family have occupied the residence.

Mixed reactions to CDC’s revised COVID mask mandate | CIDRAP

“I wouldn’t want to declare victory [over COVID-19] prematurely, but I’m saying this is clearly a step in the direction that we want to go,” Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CNN’s Jake Tapper.

At the same time, Fauci acknowledged that people such as store or restaurant owners will have to trust others to unmask responsibly. “They will not be able to know,” he said. “I mean, you’re going to be depending on people being honest enough to say whether they were vaccinated or not.”

Fauci reminded CNN that while there will be no federally mandated vaccine passports, organizations such as colleges and businesses can require COVID-19 vaccination.

A Story Risen from the Mist

Michael Stephen Wills Photography

We did not climb so much as ascend, with effort, the flank of Slieve Foy, a peak of the Cooley Mountains, County Louth, Ireland. The group being cousin Sean, my wife, Pam, and myself.

The ridge of Golyin Pass loomed in the mist where the path dissolved in low cloud. Sean pointed above, to the right to Barnavave, also know as Maeve’s Gap for the queen who came from the west of Ireland to take Donn Cúailnge, the Brown Bull of Cooley, by force of arms with an army behind her.

A modern rendering of Donn Cúailnge. See link at the bottom of this posting for more information.

When cousin Sean named Cú Chulainn, the champion of Maeve’s opponents, the Ulstermen, he recalled a story once lost, Táin Bó Cúailnge. A hospitable siege different from Maeve’s and mist are…

Recipe : Cabbage and Beet Sabzi

Looks great and simple to do.

Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA

By now you must know, I love flirting with flavours. I’m all for overlapping of flavours and cuisines. I had this huge cabbage in my fridge whose presence in there has begun to annoy me. So, I decided to do something with it. I didn’t want the usual cabbage sabzi or cabbage and carrots or cabbage and capsicum. And I really didn’t want to go all out with something like spring rolls. Somehow, I felt the sweetness of a beet would marry well with the mild sharpness of a cabbage. I decided to extend that thought to reality and went out to buy some beet. Yeah, I put in some effort! I Now, I’ll be honest with you. I am very pleased with the result. But, it’s not something I would plan for a dinner party with guests. It’s a simple homestyle dish that is extremely healthy. And if you…

They Walk Among Us …

Filosofa's Word

Some days I wake up and wonder if I dreamed all the lunacy that is part of the United States today.  And then I pick up my phone, check the news, and … nope, not a dream, just a horrible reality.  And then I wish I could just stay in bed, not ever get up again.  I have a feeling that the founders of this nation would be deeply ashamed of some of the people who inhabit it today.  More than a few times I’ve thought perhaps we would have been better off to remain under British rule, for obviously we are not capable of self-governance today.  Just a few examples …

Women of old: Anna Waldherr, lady and writer, lawyer and advocate for the poor – Our society is in love with wealth and fame. We idolize billionaires. Anna Waldherr
