Lone Pine 3

Michael Stephen Wills Photography

What is a Lone Pine without the sky? This specimen somewhat less gnarled than numbers 1 and 2. Here we see more of the beetling crag, layered up sediment of eons.

For this shot we approached Zion National Park from the east, via route 9, past Checkerboard Mesa. Our lodging was to the east, probably the Best Western in Mt. Carmel on Rt 89. Meaning there were four opportunities for capturing memorable East Zion images over two days.

Captured with a Kodak DCS Pro SLE/c dslr and a Canon lens EF 200 mm 1:2.8 L II stabilized with the Manfrotto Studio Tripod model 475 and the 468 Hydrostatic ball head. This series explores the possibility of the iconic “Lone Pine.”

About the fun people I have met!

Good stories…

Love all or perish

34/100

Today I plan to write about three amazing humans I met on my trips around India. They all are still and will always be in my thoughts, even though I cannot reach out to them.

Braveheart!

She works part time as a guide for Kumbhalgarh fort and knows more about it’s rich culture than we do. She was just 12 when she met me, aces at what she does, competes with people twice her age and still manages it all with an infectious smile. She goes to school, helps her mom, loves clicking pictures and snapchat is her favorite app. She is not privileged and yet there were no complaints from her, while we are so privileged but we cannot stop cribbing. There is so much to learn from this little bundle of joy ⭐. If you are able to read this, know that you are privileged and let’s…

Saqqara

ore de drum

Cairo, 2018

Navajo Code Talkers Day

Pacific Paratrooper

977177navajo1

During WWI, the Choctaw language had been used to transmit U.S. military messages. With this thought in mind, Philip Johnston, the son of a missionary grew up on a Navajo reservation and spoke the Diné tongue fluently, brought the suggestion of a similar code to General Clayton Vogel early in 1942. The Diné language has no alphabet, uses no symbols and one sound may hold an entire concept. The idea was tested and proved to be faster and more reliable than the mechanized methods. The language has more verbs than nouns, that helps to move the sentences along and makes it far more difficult for outsiders to learn – making it the most ingenious and successful code in military history.

Why Are Rainforests Important? — 365 Ways to Save the Planet

Barbara Crane Navarro

Day 173 – We lose 40 football fields worth of rainforests every minute. In less than 10 years, there may only be 10% of rainforest left. We have already lost over 9 million acres. So, why should we care about the rainforests? Rainforests absorbs carbon dioxide and release the oxygen that we depend on for[…]

Pećina Đatlo, Republika Srpska, BiH – Đatlo Cave, Republika Srpska, BiH

Myrela

Wondering Wednesdays, Baby Acres, Chapter 1, end of part II: Adulthood and Vision

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This post continues the rough draft of  Chapter 1 of my non-fiction WiP, Baby Acres.  This is the end of outline section, chapter 1, section II.

This section is fairly short, being 550 words, sections C and D together, so I am posting them together.

And still again, by way of disclaimer, the overall goal is now to explain why we need both equ. + justice, & why in 4 phases.  This chapter will transition to a chapter (2-5) for each phase, showing what Phases I-IV could look like as part of a possible roadmap for a fully inclusive society for all of us.  This vision is laid out in the hope that All HumanKind  will eventually have each person’s basic needs  met, without taking anything from anyone, and without violence, intimidation, nor coercion of any kind.

Chapter One, section II C and D:

Phase II with respect to the…
