According to the research, primates, bats, ungulates and carnivores alone host 58 per cent of the known zoonotic viruses present in the wildlife trade. The authors also noted that ongoing deforestation, land-use change and habitat fragmentation could result in direct contact and disease transmission between humans and the species listed in their study.
The solution could include stronger enforcement on illegal wildlife trade and ban on high-risk wildlife trade to tackle emerging zoonotic diseases with epidemic potential into humans. Source: Environment News India – Environment India
21-31 December 1941
Brief excerpts for December 1941:”23 December, the American and Filipino units on Luzon, Philippines, began moving into the Bataan Peninsula. MacArthur was commanding from Corregidor and declared Manila an ‘open-city.’ The next day, 7,000 Japanese troops landed at Lamon Bay on the island and entrap the Allied soldiers on the peninsula.
24 December, after 2 weeks of steady bombardment and the landing of Japanese troops, Wake Island succumbed and US forces surrendered. / The vital British naval and air base at Rangoon, Burma received a major air bombardment.”

« You don’t understand why we want to protect our forest? Ask me, I will answer you! Our ancestors were created with it in the beginning of time. Since then, our people have eaten its game and its fruit. We want our children to grow up here laughing. In the past, many of our people perished from your epidemics. Today I refuse to let their children and grandchildren die from the gold smoke! Chase the gold miners out of our home! They are harmful beings whose thought is dark. They are metal eaters covered in deadly xawara epidemic smoke. »
- Yanomami spokesperson and shaman Davi Kopenawa
30% of what is now recognized as ancestral indigenous lands are in danger of being «legally»opened to gold mining and other extractive operations as well as logging and industrial agriculture. The bill that…

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better
How many of us remember why monocropping can be a problem, and how it could impact our health, and the health of generations to come?
Reading: “Growing the same crop on a field year after year can cause crop yields to decline as the soil becomes depleted and insect populations become firmly established. Crop rotation, or growing different crops in different years, is one way to avoid these problems. However, discovering the most effective rotation of a number of different crops is difficult, because there are so many possible orders in which to grow them and testing any given crop rotation takes several years.”
This might take some math, huh? For example, what might a percentage increase in one year be for a bunch of bugs that have made themselves snuggly at home in a potato field, versus the percentage increase of those bugs if that potato field were…

Truman Diary – July 1945
At this point, it seems that the atom bomb was supposed to be used on a primarily military target not a city.
From: The Harry S. Truman Library and Museum
Entry:
25 Jul 1945
We met at 11 A.M. today. [That is Stalin, Churchill and the U.S. President. Clement Attlee was also there.] But I had a most important session with Lord Mountbatten & General Marshall before that. We have discovered the most terrible bomb in the history of the world. It may be the fire destruction prophesied in the Euphrates Valley Era, after Noah and his fabulous Ark.
Anyway we think we have found the way to cause a disintegration of the atom. An experiment in the New Mexican desert was startling – to put it mildly. Thirteen pounds of the explosive caused the complete disintegration of a steel tower 60 feet high, created a crater 6 feet deep and 1200 feet in diameter, knocked over a steel tower 1/2 mile away and knocked…

Mexico enters 3rd wave of coronavirus, infections up 29% – The Washington Post
Mexico is entering its third wave of the coronavirus pandemic, as infections rose by 29% compared to the previous week. But the country’s health department said Friday the growth is largely coming from infections among younger, less vulnerable people. Case numbers are now as high as the beginning of the last surge in September; that wave peaked in January and steadily declined until June. But at present only about 22% of the country’s hospital beds are occupied; hospital beds in many parts of the country were essentially filled to capacity during the last wave. Authorities said the relative decline of serious cases among older people is a result of the country’s vaccination campaign, which as of Friday has given at least one dose to about 39% of all adults.

Toskana 2018 – Bericht eines Nicht-Bloggers
Vivaldi translation of introduction: Tuscany 2018 – report by a non-blogger
4. Oktober 2018
A non-blogger among professionals. Max, the chief blogger officer, called and organized everything well. We meet in Pisa on the Pisamover, a driverless train between the airport and the train station, and we start with a lot of culture: the Torre is still crooked next to the cathedral, a wonderful sight in the bright sun. Starting in 1173, he leaned during construction because the subsoil was not solid enough. We give ourselves the dizzying ascent: the old city wall opposite is not so high, the entrance is low, but the view is almost as beautiful. The cathedral next to the tower is impressive: four floors high in marble with a mighty dome. Inside, the pulpit is impressive, richly decorated with reliefs and statues. It is also worthwhile to look at the ceiling, which is completely gold-plated. The Baptistery opposite is the largest baptismal church in the world.

Marine Corps corporal gets 3D-printed teeth with jaw reconstruction – UPI.com
A Marine Corps member is the first recipient of the Defense Department’s first jaw reconstruction using 3D-printed teeth, the Pentagon said on Friday. A tumor prompted the removal of most of Cpl. Jaden Murry’s jaw in a November 2020 surgery.
