Vax up and mask up: How experts say B.C. can counter rising COVID-19 case numbers | Globalnews.ca

As of Friday, about 58 per cent of eligible British Columbians was fully vaccinated, while about 80 per cent have had their first dose.

“This is my main concern right now,” Conway said.

“I would like to encourage all British Columbians and all Canadians that the moment you are eligible to receive your second shot and that is made available to you, run, don’t walk to the vaccination centre and be part of the solution.”

Cronica unor iubiri programate

ore de drum

Bangkok, 2017

Voting Is A RIGHT, Not A Privilege!!!

Filosofa's Word

In 1965, Congress passed, and President Lyndon Johnson signed into law the Voting Rights Act of 1965.  Please note and remember that this bill was NOT titled the Voting Privilege Act of 1965, but the Voting RIGHTS Act … rights, not privileges.

Several constitutional amendments, the 15th, the 19th, and the 26th, require that voting rights of U.S. citizens cannot be abridged on account of race, color, previous condition of servitude, sex, or age (18 and older).  Are we all in agreement here that every person over the age of 18 has the right to vote?

However, according to a recent PEW Research study, white people don’t think that voting is a right, but rather a privilege that one must earn!  It’s no damn wonder, then, that 42 states are in the process of drafting or passing legislation that would make it far more…

COVID-19 in Jamaica: Wary of a Third Wave

Petchary's Blog

The Ministry of Health and Wellness held one of their regular press briefings on April 29. It was not hard to detect a change of tone – and it was quite disturbing. There was hardly a glimmer of a smile, and at one point both Minister Tufton and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) actually looked distressed. The body language spoke loudly.

There was no major self-congratulation over the number of new cases, which has declined quite a bit. There was no complacency, although our hospitals are under rather less pressure than they were a few weeks ago and there was a sense of relief that our beleaguered health care workers are getting some respite. As of yesterday (April 30) there were 199 new cases – the highest number being in the northern parish of St. Ann – and the positivity rate was an unimpressive 21.2 percent (our average positivity…

No Longer ‘Hidden Victims,’ Children Are Dying as Virus Surges in Indonesia – The New York Times

Hundreds of children in Indonesia have died from the coronavirus in recent weeks, many of them under age 5, a mortality rate greater than that of any other country and one that challenges the idea that children face minimal risk from Covid-19, doctors say.

The deaths, more than 100 a week this month, have come as Indonesia confronts its biggest surge yet in coronavirus cases over all — and as its leaders face mounting criticism that they have been unprepared and slow to act.

“Our numbers are the highest in the world,” the head of the Indonesian Pediatric Society, Dr. Aman Bhakti Pulungan, said of the death rate. “Why are we not giving the best for our children?”

The jump in child deaths coincides with the surge of the Delta variant, which has swept through Southeast Asia, where vaccination rates are low, causing record outbreaks not only in Indonesia, but in Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar and Vietnam as well.

Florida urged to ramp up vaccination effort amid ‘alarming’ Covid rise | Florida | The Guardian

“For weeks cases have been rapidly increasing so it’s curious to me as a physician when Governor DeSantis gave a speech basically poking fun at Dr Fauci,” Bernard Ashby, a Miami-based cardiologist and head of the Florida chapter of the Committee to Protect Health Care, said.

“While DeSantis is traveling around bragging about Florida’s handling of the pandemic, or lack of, and making fun of Fauci, doctors here are feeling like we are back at square one.”

Thailand sees new daily COVID-19 infections surpass 15,000

Thailand said Sunday its newly confirmed daily infections have surpassed 15,000 for the first time during the coronavirus pandemic, just a week after breaching the 10,000 mark. The number of new COVID-19 cases reached a record high of 15,335, with 129 deaths. Like much of Southeast Asia, the current wave of infections in Thailand has been fueled by the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant.
