People With Developmental Disabilities Want Their Home Health Workers Vaccinated | LAist

People with developmental disabilities say their in-home aides should be added to the list of health workers required to get the shot. But a mandate could exacerbate the industry’s staffing problems.

California’s unvaccinated young hit by COVID hospitalizations – Los Angeles Times

At Fountain Valley Regional Hospital in Orange County, the average age of people admitted for hospital treatment in January was 64. Now it’s 46, Dr. Timothy Korber, the hospital’s medical director of emergency services, said recently. Dr. Rais Vohra, Fresno County’s interim health officer, said people are “in so much danger if you’re not vaccinated right now.” “We really are seeing just many, many people that are unvaccinated — young people, in their 20s, 30s and 40s — that are landing in the hospitals right now,” Vohra said. “That could be you. That could be someone that you love, someone that you know.” In Orange County, “the overall pattern is that it’s the 30-, 40-, 50-year-olds who are getting hospitalized, compared to previous surges when it’s really been 65 and over,” Dr. Regina Chinsio-Kwong, a deputy health officer, said at a briefing last week.

Covid: Pfizer and AstraZeneca approved as booster vaccines – BBC News

The UK medicines regulator has approved the use of Pfizer and AstraZeneca as Covid booster vaccines, paving the way for a rollout ahead of the winter. But the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), the UK vaccine advisory body, has not decided if they are needed, and who should be eligible. The JCVI has said a third dose should be offered to people with severely weakened immune systems. Up to half a million people over the age of 12 in the UK are in this group. A separate booster programme against Covid-19 would aim to extend protection for millions more at high risk from the virus, although there is disagreement over whether this is really necessary.

Scores of Westerners, including Americans, fly out of Kabul – The Washington Post

Some 200 foreigners, including Americans, flew out of Afghanistan on an international commercial flight from Kabul airport on Thursday, the first such large-scale departure since U.S and foreign forces concluded their frantic withdrawal at the end of last month. The Qatar Airways flight to Doha marked a significant breakthrough in the bumpy coordination between the U.S. and Afghanistan’s new Taliban rulers. A dayslong stand-off over charter planes at another airport had left dozens of passengers stranded and cast doubt on Taliban assurances to allow foreigners and Afghans with proper travel documents to leave the country. A senior U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to brief the media, provided the number of Westerners on board and said that two very senior Taliban officials had helped facilitate the departure. Americans, green card holders and other nationalities including Germans, Hungarians and Canadians were on the flight, the official said.

The lazy bear|خرس تنبل

A Voice from Iran

“88th story”

First published: April.25.2019

When my son was a few years old, I bought him a book called “Lazy Bear.” The simple story made me realize how modestly this book was describing our life.

What a great idea it was that they created animal characters to tell the stories to open our minds. This is how it went:

Once there was a very kind squirrel who loved to help others a lot. One day, while the squirrel was running fast, his friends “Monkey” and “Rabbit” asked: “Where are you running to? It’s been a few days that you have been doing this. Is everything alright?”

The squirrel responded while short of breath: “There is a little bear under the big oak tree that can’t move and is very hungry. I am running to get some fruits for him before he dies of hunger.”
