COVID-19 Vaccines Mean a Safe Return to Normal Life in Nepal | UNICEF USA

To date, Nepal has received more than 3.4 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines via the COVAX Facility, a global alliance formed to ensure the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines worldwide. Many of those doses were donated by the governments of Japan and the U.S. as part of a global strategy to end the pandemic. As a key partner in COVAX, UNICEF is leveraging decades of experience protecting the world’s children from vaccine-preventable diseases.

Now that COVID-19 vaccines have arrived, Bham is one of a growing number of community members who have been vaccinated and are relieved to be able to return safely to normal life. There is more work to be done: just 22 percent of Nepal’s population is fully vaccinated.

“I’m happy to have gotten the vaccine,” she says. “I feel sure that it will do something good, so my heart is happy.”

Angkor Wat – Tempelwunder im Dschungel

Vivaldi translation of opening paragraph: The main attraction of Cambodia is for the Angkor Wat temple complex, the national symbol of Cambodia and at the same time the cultural “heart” of the old Khmer kingdom. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is the most famous temple in Angkor, it is the largest religious building in the world, a geometrical complex with a Temple Mount and five towers, which is surrounded by wide moats.

LANDBACK Friends

New or worsening catastrophes seem to be coming at us daily. Worse things than we can imagine are yet to come. When I say “we” in most cases I mean white people since many things below are race related.

I often think of what Albert Einstein said, “problems cannot be solved with the same mind set that created them.”

There are several reasons I’ve been praying, thinking, and writing about the precarious place we are at now. We need to build alternatives to the systems of capitalism, materialism, militarism, incarceration, racism, and white supremacy. Systems rooted in stolen lands and stolen labor. Not only because they are founded on injustice, but because these systems are failing now. (See: Time for a reset)

Any chance we have to address these injustices and mitigate these dangers requires changing our mind set. Looking back over my life it seems like an endless struggle…

The Truth Matters

We must believe, we must support, we must champion these courageous people around the world who seek and report the facts, the truth, at whatever cost to their reputations, their careers, and in some instances, their very llves.

The Nobel Prize Committee thinks enough of journalism to see it as important to the peace process. So should we.

just drive, will you?

A positive news item I think worth sharing:

The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded Friday to two journalists, Maria Ressa of the Philippines, and Dmitri Muratov of Russia, for their indefatigable pursuit of the truth, in the face of the most severe efforts to suppress it.

According to the New York Times:

“The journalists…were recognized for “their courageous fight for freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.”

“They are representatives of all journalists who stand up for this ideal in a world in which democracy and freedom of the press face increasingly adverse conditions,” the committee said in a statement released after the announcement in Oslo…

“The Nobel committee chose from 329 candidates, one of the largest pools in the 126-year history of the prize. Those who had been considered favorites for this year included climate change activists, political dissidents and scientists whose work helped…
