Noche de muertos – Totenfest in Michoacán, Mexiko

Spiritual basis of justice work

LANDBACK Friends

This morning my Quaker meeting will continue to discuss our work for peace and justice. In preparation, I’ve been praying about the spiritual basis of justice work.

Quakers have a long history of work related to Indigenous peoples, including participation in the institutions of forced assimilation (sometimes referred to as boarding or residential schools).

In the following, Paula Palmer writes about her spiritual leading that led to a ministry related to Quakers and Native peoples. She writes, “from our twenty-first-century vantage point, we know (or can learn) how Native people suffered and continue to suffer the consequences of actions that Friends committed 150 ago with the best of intentions. Can we hold those good intentions tenderly in one hand, and in the other hold the anguish, fear, loss, alienation, and despair borne by generations of Native Americans?”

What happened at those institutions is generating attention these days as the remains…

Ann and Anna, (serial short story, Part 5): Naming

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

… Parts 4 (Home), 3 (Trust), 2 (Hope), and 1 (Nightmares) have posted on previous Sundays:

I felt it more than I saw it: Anna was so startled that she nearly fell off of her horse.

“You were named by a what?”

Her whisper was sharp enough to cut through a dry pork chop. Her amazement cut me to the bone. It was understandable. But still.

“I was named by a very old tree. In The Old Dominion, of course.”

“So, exactly how did that happen, Miss Willow? Did you hear a great rumbling voice speaking to you from out of the -”

She stopped speaking, giving me a look as if we were at Sunday meeting hearing of Moses and the Burning Bush. I began to laugh and had to stop myself, fearing that I might endanger our escape with too much mirth.

“I had only…

Leitura como um ato prazeroso

Vivaldi translation: Reading as a pleasurable act
Reading is capable of emancipating your possibilities; it makes the necessary connection between you and the world, offering freedom in the face of the continuous process of thinking, and at the same time, enables the idea of Justice and peace. Reading has a free spirit, because in addition to the satisfaction it brings, it is also possible to say that more than pleasurable, the act of reading contributes to the feeling of accomplishment.

A good reading is capable of making a world of transformation between life and losses. But, it is also possible to say that it breaks the things that block our ability to think, as well as, it expands our immense possibility of flowing fully into this immense universe called life.

Marii Freire Pereira

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Scotland to rollout diabetes test for Type 1 patients – BBC News

Prof Strachan said: “C-peptide helps diabetes specialists make a more accurate diagnosis of the cause of diabetes, and that means we can get people on the most appropriate treatment.

“In some instances, C-peptide testing allowed people to stop very long-standing insulin therapy. This can be life-transforming.

“If anyone has any concerns regarding their diabetes or wishes to know more about the new blood test, they should contact their diabetes clinical team who are best placed to provide specific advice and support based on their individual circumstances.”

‘Significant positive impact’

There are about 315,000 people living with diabetes in Scotland and the new programme will be offered to people who have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes for at least three years.

The tests will be offered at hospital diabetes centres.

Public Health Minister Maree Todd said that tackling diabetes was a priority for the Scottish government and that she wanted everyone living with diabetes to access safe, effective healthcare, treatment and support.

She said: “Type 1 diabetes is a significant health challenge right across the world.

“I am proud that Scotland will be the first country to introduce this blood test which has the potential to have a significant positive impact on the lives of those people living with diabetes.”

Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA

So, the Christian population in India is less than 2%. And within that 2%, the subset of Bombay Catholics is a fun bunch;) You see, most Indian weddings have the bridal couple stand on the pedestal in heavy traditional wear adorned in gold and jewels, while people queue up to wish and gift them. Then guests go and attack the buffet. Done! But Catholic weddings in Bombay are very similar to Western weddings. And depending on the location and families involved, you’ll see women in plunging necklines, backless gowns, and stilettos. There’s a very rigid sequence of song and dance after the initial entry, toast, cake cutting, and wedding march. It’s always like this: first dance, foxtrot, waltz, jive, maybe a little cha-cha and salsa, new popular dance tracks, classic dance hits, Hindi and Bollywood dance tracks, Konkani or Marathi tracks followed by the quintessential ‘Catholic Masala’. Bombay has a…
