Writing process and plot hole notes…

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This is a note  from my novel journal for Book I of my historical fantasy WiP: Who By Fire.

I’m still in need of more knowledge about my protagonist, even though this information will never go into the novel: who in the heck are his parents?

He doesn’t know, because he has never, to his memory, met them.  But this will make a tremendous difference in his life, so it’s part of the unwritten (or not included in the novel, rather) back story that must be known.  Like an adopted person, it will hang over his head.  Or will it?  Does that lack of knowledge really have to affect a grown person?

Action Prompts:

1.) Share your thoughts on how knowing, or not, who your parents are makes a difference, and how historical fiction, and story in general, may encourage empathy-building cooperation, and might help, or…

Leftist Gabriel Boric wins Chile presidential election – BBC News (Me: Yessss)

Leftist candidate Gabriel Boric has won Chile’s presidential election after an early concession from his far-right rival, José Antonio Kast. Mr Kast conceded defeat barely an hour and a half after polls closed, and with around half of ballots counted. Early results show Mr Boric leading with 56% of the vote, and Mr Kast trailing with 45% in the run-off race. The election has been one of the most polarised in recent decades and comes after mass anti-government protests. At 35-years-old, Mr Boric will become one of the world’s youngest political leaders.

Wet’suwet’en solidarity in Iowa

LANDBACK Friends

There will be a gathering in solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en peoples this Wednesday, December 22, at 4:00 PM. at the Chase Bank, 3621 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, IA 50310.

Chase is one of the major institutions funding fossil fuel projects, including the Coastal GasLink pipeline being built on Wet’suwet’en lands. Pressuring financial institutions to divest funds from fossil fuel projects has been a tactic for many years. Gatherings like this can encourage the bank to consider divesting from fossil fuel projects. They can also provide a public way for individuals to divest their funds from these banks.

Chase Bank, 3621 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines

My first experience with divestment occurred in Indianapolis in 2016, where we targeted both Chase and PNC, who were funding the Dakota Access pipeline. Below are some photos from the day we went to those banks, where those who had accounts there closed them.

our final prayer…

Develop. Inspire. Transform.

the city slumbers, while the giant, along, lumbers,
taking respite, when, in times of trouble,
the mechanical birds, circle in the air,
speeding more than is, a trifle,
fair

spreading wings of love onto the land, protecting the visage
of the wear and tear, it is the darkness
prepared,
and
the light
responding
if they dare…

battle imminent, patrons vigilant, while across the land,
warriors gather, battle plans scrawled,
even as some
drawl
and
make
the last call

needed, as love and light prepare, some scared, others
ready for the nights, and the heights
of desperation
bared
to

each soul everywhere, they take formation, gathering under
the wings of justice, let ourselves stay present to
the life-affirming
sustenance

of the land, and within it, the love of our hearts,
together, sheltered, as
we whisper, this,
our final
prayer…

In response to the WDYS #112 prompt from Keep it Alive, by…
