Parashat Bo, and when Come really means Go

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

This week’s Torah portion, “Parashat Bo / פָּרָשַׁתבֹּא”  is the 15th sedra (portion) in the annual Jewish cycle, and the third portion in the book of Exodus/Shemot.   The entire Torah Portion is: Exodus 10:1-13:16

This week, traditional congregations (and maybe a few Masorti/Conservative Movement folks) will read the entire portion, from ‘the last three plagues on Egypt to the first Passover’ or, in the words of Zorba, “The full catastrophe.”

I was invited, when I lived in Izmir, to eat the first Seder with a family who chose to treat me as a man, handing me the walking stick with the bundle tied over it, as we used to picture Hobos carrying their things, ready to ride the rails, hopping trains during the Great Depression.  That impressed me deeply, both being treated as a man, while the women of the family watched…

Day 27/67, GED in 5 Months, more relationships, & Adulting Ed.

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Understanding how to see how various shapes, quantities, people, or policies relate to each other is a crucial part of Adult citizenship responsibility,  and is thus part of any democracy as well.

The relationship between squares, rectangles, and triangles may be simpler than the relationship between slavery, racism, and Manifest Destiny, but understanding both sets of relationships is part of being an Adult in a democratic society.

To learn you have to listen, to improve you have to try!

-Unknown

Do not allow mediocrity to define your destiny. Get up, focus, pay attention and then implement what you learned. Next, teach others, as long as it’s in decency and in order. It’s not complicated. If they don’t or won’t listen, you can’t say that you didn’t try, and neither can they. Move on because there is someone else who needs your guidance and encouragement.

Have a FANtabulous day my friends!

Kamala Harris’s Words

NANMYKEL.COM

Our vice president’s words via Daily Kos:

January 6th reflects the dual nature of democracy—its fragility and its strength. You see, the strength of democracy is the rule of law. The strength of democracy is the principle that everyone should be treated equally, that elections should be free and fair, that corruption should be given no quarter. The strength of democracy is that it empowers the people. And the fragility of democracy is this: that if we are not vigilant, if we do not defend it, democracy simply will not stand; it will falter and fail.

The American spirit is being tested. The answer to whether we will meet that test resides where it always has resided in our country—with you, the people.

Here, in this very building, a decision will be made about whether we uphold the right to vote and ensure free and fair elections. Let’s be clear:

Por que tantas mulheres tem dificuldade em sair de relacionamentos abusivos?

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!
