“Conatus”un İzinde ve Dahi Ötesinde

KAYIPDefter(arşiv)

Felsefe, matematiğin sözcük düzenleri üzerine birebir izdüşümüdür; yani matematik aksiyomları felsefede de geçerlidir.

İnsan düşüncesi hep bir özgül ağırlık taşır. Sorular, sorgular hikmet sevgisini tetikler.

Honouring Dr. Martin Luther King …

Filosofa's Word

Today is Martin Luther King Day, a federal holiday in the United States to honour one of the greatest men who ever lived in this country.  I first wrote this tribute to Dr. King in 2017, and each year I reprise it, with slight changes or minor additions, for I find that it still says exactly what I wish to say.  Given the increase in racism in the United States in recent years, I think the above quote seems more apt today than ever before.  So please, take just a minute to, if nothing else, listen once again to Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.  In these troubled times, it is good to be reminded of Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream.  More than ever, I wish we had a few Dr. Martin Luther Kings fighting for equality and justice for all today.

Lingayen Gulf | January 1945

Pacific Paratrooper

The USS Louisville is struck by a kamikaze Yokosuka D4Y at the Battle of Lingayen Gulf, 6 January 1945

On 2 January, the US carrier, USSOmmaney Bay, was severely damaged by a kamikaze aircraft and would later need to be scuttled. Three days later, the cruiser, USSColumbia, was also damaged when she was hit by 2 of the Japanese suicide planes. US shipping received relentless kamikaze strikes that cost the Navy more than 1000 men due to those 30 hits.

Beginning on 6 January, a heavy naval and air bombardment of suspected Japanese defenses on Lingayen began. Aircraft and naval artillery bombardment of the soon-to-be landing areas occurred, with kamikazes attacking again on the 7th.

On the 8th, it was observed that in the town of Lingayen, as a response to the prelanding shelling, Filipinos had begun to form a parade…

The environment AND climate change: shuffled out in the Jamaican Government’s “reshuffle”

Petchary's Blog

Apart from the collective “meh” among most Jamaicans that greeted the Prime Minister’s “Cabinet reshuffle” announced a few days ago, one thing struck me immediately. Where has the Ministry of Housing, Urban Renewal, Environment and Climate Changegone? It seemed to be settling down a little, under the leadership of Minister Pearnel Charles, Jr., who has now been moved to the Agriculture Ministry.

Having said that, the very important Natural Resources Conservation Authority (NRCA) and National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), which includes planning, monitoring, managing and regulating environmental matters, had already been taken into the Office of the Prime Minister – for reasons which I often ponder. Minister Charles’ portfolio included the Climate Change Division (which had already been moved once), the Environment and Risk Management Division, the Forestry Department, the Met Service, the Pilot Programme for Climate Resilience, and the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica.

There is no mention…

saint-anthony-grk-ikon

Action Items:

1.) Search for two different sources relating the reasons that this person is considered father of monks (at least by the Greeks),

2.) Share them with us in the comments, here, please.

3.) Share your thoughts on how knowing this might help, or hinder, inclusive thinking,

4.) Write a book, blog post or tweet that uses those thoughts, and maybe also either the Julian calendar, or some other alternate calendar, tells a good story, and makes a difference. I’m working on that through my historical fantasy #WiP, #WhoByFireIWill. If you write a book, once published, please consider donating to your local public library.

Dear Readers, ideas on learning, especially multiple #LanguageLearning, on-going education and empathy-building, to…

Day 37/67, Five Month GED, adaptations, and Adulting

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Adulting is also about understanding adaptations, not from a scientific or organic perspective, but from a more emotional and intellectual point of view.

chameleon-in-green-color-adaptation_04

Adapting to new situations is a skill that science can teach us for both abstract intelligence and emotional intelligence.  That skill is needed in the modern world by all people.

Middle of week 10/18
Day 37, Week 10
Grammar:Possessives -the apostrophe
Math: Congruent and similar regions
Day 37 Exit Ticket
(Day 36 … Day 38)

Action Items:

1.) What do you think is the difference between adapting emotionally and adapting intellectually to a problem or situation, and why might that make a difference to citizens in a republic?

2.)  This lesson plan is one of my personal contributions to Project Do Better.  What would you contribute, assuming you had time, to the work of building empathy in our world?

3.)…
