Jamaica’s private sector calls for transparency, adherence to rules in Bengal mining plans at Puerto Bueno

Petchary's Blog

Today, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) expressed concern in a press release today about what seems to be a volte face by the Prime Minister on the matter of mining permits for the Bengal area of St. Ann (Puerto Bueno or Dry Harbour Mountain), which for a while appeared to have been abandoned after the company in question had once again failed to meet the requirements of the performance bond. However, the company is now going ahead – even though they had already failed to meet the terms imposed by the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) not once, but twice. Well, third time lucky, it seems.

A reminder that the Holness administration recently demoted Environment and Climate Change (there is now NO ministryunder that banner) to “Economic Growth and Job Creation,” under the purview of his own office, like NEPA. There is no Environment/Climate Change Minister.

Voting Rights — Going … Going … ???

Filosofa's Word

Most states are passing laws that restrict voting rights, especially those of Blacks, Hispanics, the poor, the elderly and the young, and some of those laws are positively draconian!  For example, our friend Suze reports that …

“My own state has a bill under discussion that would make it a felony to provide transport to a voting site to anyone “not within their immediate family.”

So, if your neighbor’s car is in the shop being repaired, and the nearest polling place is ten miles away, you are forbidden to take them to vote???  I think not!  If such a law were passed here, I would double down on my determination to drive my friends and neighbors to the polling station and dare anybody to cross me!  Toss me in jail if you will … I won’t back down!  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr …

Just this morning, Suze informed me that the bill failed…

Texas Man Charged With Threatening to Kill Georgia Election Officials – The New York Times

The Justice Department on Friday charged a Texas man with publicly calling for the assassination of Georgia’s election officials on the day before the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

The case is the first brought by the department’s Election Threats Task Force, an agency created last summer to address threats against elections and election workers. Federal prosecutors accused the man, Chad Christopher Stark, 54, of Leander, Texas, of calling for “Georgia Patriots” to “put a bullet” in a Georgia election official the indictment refers to as Official A.

Mr. Stark, according to the three-page indictment, made the threat in a post on Craigslist, the online message board, while then-President Donald J. Trump and his allies were putting public pressure on Brad Raffensperger, the Georgia secretary of state who certified Mr. Trump’s defeat in Georgia to Joseph R. Biden Jr.

“Georgia Patriots it’s time for us to take back our state from these Lawless treasonous traitors,” Mr. Stark wrote, according to the indictment. “It’s time to invoke our Second Amendment right it’s time to put a bullet in the treasonous Chinese [Official A]. Then we work our way down to [Official B] the local and federal corrupt judges.”

Mr. Stark was charged with one count of communicating interstate threats.

Kada adrenalin postane droga – When adrenaline becomes a drug

Myrela

Give Credit Where Credit Is Due!

Filosofa's Word

President Biden is doing the best he can, folks, given what he has to work with!  No one man can solve all the nation’s problems … he needs the help of others, but the only thing President Biden is getting from others is obstruction and criticism.  Thus far, I think he’s done a pretty damn good job, considering that not one single Republican in Congress has found their conscience in the pile of dirty laundry they left lying about the floor of the Capitol.  But it’s not only the Republicans … even members of Biden’s own party are wringing their hands and saying he “should do this …” or “shouldn’t have said that …” instead of supporting his efforts.

I don’t know about you, but I am sick and damn tired of the media focusing on what President Biden didn’t accomplish, calling his first year in office a ‘dismal failure’…

French Fridays with Lupin, Omar Sy style!

This fourth episode is inter-generational, all the way back to Emile Zola!!  Yes, kids, sometimes the old folks know things that you guys can’t just Google, and they know how to “get what you need!”  But the dog’s name!  So cool!!  J’accuse!!  Excellent!!!

“Pas les moyens de me defendre…”  but she did teach J’accuse to bark when the name of that  evil guy is spoken.  So the old Fabienne does still exist, somewhere!
