Ann and Anna, Part 17, and Passing…

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

         In my serial Ann & Anna,  Parts 17,  reprinted below, and in part 16 (Power), as well as the foreshadowing in earlier parts, which post on  Sundays, the theme of Passing, as in Black folks passing for White, comes to the forefront of the story.  A reader asked me about this topic, and I thought it might be interesting  for other readers, as well:

      ”   Can Willow pass?

Well, she certainly does not believe so, but Anna, and little Tilly, clearly think that she can.

Remember, passing is more than about just how light your skin is (and how ‘kinky’ your hair is, which is always how Mexicans can tell I’m Black…)

Passing is an interesting and delicate thing: it really depends on the eye of the beholder.

I, personally, cannot pass at all in most of DC, MD, NY/NJ, and certainly not…

Szenen vom Kattegat … Sequences from Kattegat

Stella, oh, Stella

… The weather last week was rather extreme, all between +8 degrees Celsius to night frosts and under +2 C during the day. Add a hard wind from west and northwest to that. For the first time, our 1000 l water tank was blown down from its rest of pallets … and the drain pipe with…

Ask 7 questions about isolation and testing by Covid-19 – Mágica Mistura を

Basically, the new guidelines recommend leaving isolation at :

–> 5 dias: if the person is asymptomatic on the fifth day after detection of the disease (without fever or respiratory symptoms in the previous 24 hours without the use of antipyretics) and performs a test (antigen or CRP) with a negative result ;

–> 7 dias: if there are no symptoms after seven days of isolation (ie fever or respiratory symptoms in the previous 24 hours without using antipyretics), it is possible to exit quarantine without the need to perform a test ;

–> 10 dias: if on the seventh day there are still symptoms or the test is positive, you have to extend the isolation to 10 days. In case of improvement (do not have fever or respiratory symptoms in the previous 24 hours without the use of antipyretics), you can leave the isolation at the end of the tenth day without a test ;

–> Mais de 10 dias: it is valid for people who, at the end of that period, still have symptoms. Experts recommend consulting a doctor (it may be by telemedicine), explaining the case and asking for guidance.

Inhale Peace; Exhale Love. Joy will Follow! - RUELHA

As a child, I could'nt wait to grow up and get out of school Just to evade studying that appeared rather cruel How foolish was I! I did'nt realize the learning that just happened by... Much of learning happens passively When we're just living life simultaneously Our senses cue in to situations and experiences They adapt very well even to subtle variances But, quite frankly, even conscious learning must never cease The brain is not a timeless showpiece There is always something more to learn If only you have the inclination and yearn Age is just a number; you actually get old when you stop learning An exhausted thirty year old or a young seventy year old looking forward to every morning Learning never exhausts the mind With life and goals, it gets you aligned Sometimes, life will keep repeating lessons until you thoroughly comprehend the module The roots of…
