passion lives in the wind
and in every pocket of your skin
just as magic resides
in our hearts and minds
Do you remember how it felt when kindness reigned the night?
love burned brighter than it’s ever been
caressing every tree limb
while dripping with a gentle touch
it’s just enough
to know you are there, and I am here
waiting upon your kiss carried on the wind
like seeds floating through the atmosphere
the membrane between you and I becomes thin

Is your company constantly having to replace employees, especially in critical positions? Your company may be experiencing high employee turnover or a high number of old workers leaving your company in a span of a year.
Turnovers are not uncommon as employees come and go for many reasons. Some may leave the company because their contract has expired, retired, or the company is undergoing restructuring or layoffs. Others may leave voluntarily because they found a new career or are no longer happy with the company. But, if the number of employees leaving is high and constant, it may signify that something is wrong and affects your company if it is not resolved.
Here are the reasons why it is terrible to have a high employee turnover:

High turnovers can affect the remaining employees’ morale, especially if the people leaving the company leave their tasks and responsibilities unfinished…

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better
This post is the start of the rough draft of Chapter 9 of my non-fiction WiP, Do Better, fka Baby Floors. This part of chapter 8 will introduce the later years of mapping out a path to get there for Phase III.
The overall objective remains that of putting a floor on poverty so that each and every baby born can have a safe childhood.
Outlines for chapter 9 will attempt to match with each section, at the bottom of early years posts.
Once again, by way of disclaimer, the overall goal is now to explain why we need both equ. + justice, & why in 4 phases. This chapter is part of showing what Phases I-IV could look like as potential roadmap for a fully inclusive society for all of us. This vision is laid out in the hope that All HumanKind will eventually have each person’s

Celebremos a vida com felicidade e menos tristeza.

Trial and error is a painful way to learn. It’s expensive, time consuming, and sometimes really painful. That’s why the market research industry exists. It’s better to learn from someone else’s experience than to shoot yourself in the foot.
When there is no relevant experience, than trial and error is what you do. Covid-19 presented one of these “meeting engagements” with the unknown.
New research from Italy indicates that
Neither finding should come as a complete surprise, but the second is a bit of a shock.
“The long COVID symptoms we are getting from BA.2 [the “stealth” variant of Omicron] are different from those we saw in Delta, but that is not surprising given that the disease itself is different with BA.2.”

Restaurants are struggling with an exodus of workers. According to Saru Jayaraman, it’s critical to fix the pay system that was built on racism and gender inequality after the Civil War. A tenth of employees in the US work for far less than the minimum wage.

“The top reason workers don’t want to work in restaurants is because the pay doesn’t work anymore. They can’t afford to work in restaurants anymore. That [Covid] has resulted in the silver lining, where workers are finally standing up for themselves for the first time in 150 years.” — @SaruJayaraman
Restaurants are finding that paying employees a fair wage actually improves their profitability. One Fair Wage provides spreadsheets to determine how to transition to a fair wage. And you can find restaurants who are paying people well at High Road Restaurants. https://www.highroadrestaurants.org/
One Fair Wage isn’t only focused on restaurant workers. There’s a…

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? The Next Step: Mandarin Orange Cake! For all those gloomy days out there, a taste of sunshine comes to greet you in a naturally sweet cake. Did you realize mandarin oranges don’t only come in a can? Actually, you know them by other names in the produce department: “Halos” and “Cuties”. Sometimes people refer to mandarin oranges as clementines or tangerines. Small world, huh? Whatever you choose to call them, their pretty color and ease in peeling make them a popular choice. This cake recipe is versatile enough to be baked in a muffin tin, miniature bundt molds, or as a single-layer coffeecake. Something else to think about. The sugary glaze tops it all.
MANDARIN ORANGE CAKE
Ingredients:
1 1/4 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter, melted
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon orange extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
zest…

Over the years I have written about many, many good people – some doing small things, others changing lives. But my favourites are the stories about young people doing good things, for those stories give us hope for the future. Today I have one such story that I hope you will enjoy … it is the story of a young man – well, two young men actually – with an idea that has led many others to become good people themselves!

I’d like to introduce you to this young man, Ari Schiffmann. Ari, age 19, is in his second year at Harvard University. He has taken this semester off and was in San Diego visiting family when one night in late February he attended a demonstration protesting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Later that night sleep would not come, so he lay awake in bed thinking.
“I couldn’t stop thinking about…
