Digital Pan African Heritage Museum Launched in Ghana

Jamaica Woman Tongue

In November 2015, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) declared May 5 as African World Heritage Day. IRIE FM is the only media house in Jamaica that consistently acknowledges the day, as far as I can tell. Two Sundays ago, Ka’Bu Ma’at Kheru, revolutionary host of the popular ‘Running African’ show, interviewed Hon Kojo Yankah, founder and executive chairman of Ghana’s Pan African Heritage Museum. He highlighted the fact that a digital version of the museum was going to be launched on African World Heritage Day.

The museum was launched virtually in September 2020. Construction of the physical building has started and should be completed by August 2023, in time for another significant date. In December 2020, UNESCO proclaimed August 31 as The International Day for People of African Descent. Thanks to Marcus Garvey! That was the date in 1920 on which Garvey’s month-long International Convention of…

I Thought We Were Better …

Filosofa's Word

In countries like Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and many others, one man or group of men (it’s always men, never women) control the people, their actions & behaviours.  But in a democracy, a true democracy, it is the voice of the majority that determines the laws of the land.  The United States was founded as a Democratic Republic, which is somewhat different than a pure democracy.  In a pure democracy, laws are made directly by the voting majority leaving the rights of the minority largely unprotected. In a democratic republic, laws are made by representatives chosen by the people and must comply with a constitution that specifically protects the rights of the minority as well as those of the majority.

Today in the United States, it is the will of the minority that is trampling all over the rights of the majority.  The majority of people (60%) in the…

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

‘Forever chemicals’ may have polluted 20m acres of US cropland, study says | PFAS | The Guardian

Sludge is a byproduct of the wastewater treatment process that’s a mix of human excrement and industrial waste, like PFAS, that’s discharged from industry’s pipes. Sludge disposal can be expensive so the waste management industry is increasingly repackaging it as fertilizer because excrement is rich in plant nutrients.

EWG found Ohio keeps the most precise records of any state, and sludge has been applied to 5% of its farmland since 2011. Extrapolating that across the rest of the country would mean about 20m acres are contaminated with at least some level of PFAS. Faber called the estimate “conservative”.

EPA records show over 19bn pounds of sludge has been used as fertilizer since 2016 in the 41 states where the agency tracks the amount of sludge that’s spread, but not the location. It’s estimated that 60% of the nation’s sludge is spread on cropland or other fields annually.

The consequences are evident in the only two states to consistently check sludge and farms for PFAS contamination. In Maine, PFAS-tainted fields have already forced several farms to shut down. The chemicals end up in crops and cattle, and the public health toll exacted by contaminated food in Maine is unknown. Meanwhile, the state is investigating about 700 more fields for PFAS pollution.

Who By Fire: Meet the Characters: Sally… (συναντήστε την Πρόσωπα: ‘H Sally…)

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

Our next character from my Work In Progress: Who By Fire: I Will -Book 1, is Sally :

"I would like to learn the Grecian language, of the Testament of Our Lord, one day."

Our quiet Sally is a free woman of great courage. She will tell us next week of why she wishes to learn Ancient Greek, rather than starting, like Hopkins, from the Beginning with Hebrew.

I am currently outlining the scenes as a historical urban portal fantasy, sub-genre of either suspense or thriller.

Who by Fire: I Will is a historical fantasy novel cycle trilogy, I currently expect.
