President Joe Biden to detail effort to lower Internet costs, boost speeds for millions in U.S. – UPI.com

The White House said the administration worked with Democrats and Republicans to create the Affordable Connectivity Program, which allow homes to cut Internet costs by as much as $30 per month and $75 monthly on Tribal lands. “To ensure the most efficient use of those public dollars and to deliver maximum cost savings to families, the Biden-Harris Administration has secured commitments from 20 leading internet providers — covering more than 80% of the U.S. population across urban, suburban, and rural areas — to either increase speeds or cut prices,” the White House said in a statement Monday.

Lines Drawn in the Mist

The Twisting Tail

Would you give me anything I asked?” in a tone laced with power.
White lines bracketed his lips. “I’ll be no one’s slave.

MYTH: To get a shock or burn, I need to touch a powerline.

FACT: Just getting too close could cause a severe shock, burn or even death. Electricity can jump or ‘arc’ through the air to you or any object that gets too close. Always stay at least three metres (10 feet) away from powerlines.

Minbari Mondays, and Two Lessons from “War Without End, P2” (B5:s3e17) on Empathy & Trust — Inspiring Critical Thinking and Community via Books, Lessons, and Story

This week’s lessons:           1.  Sometimes empathy requires giving the benefit of the doubt to an old enemy.           2.  Sometimes one must trust the script writer to tie up all the loose ends!           This episode is full of ties to the ultimate fates of both Londo Mollari and G’Kar, […]

Monday Notes: A Post-Mother’s Day Message for the Motherless

Thanks for this. My mother passed more than 20 years ago. My grandmother died when my mother was just 5 years old and as an adoptee, I have never known my birth parents.

K E Garland

Dear Motherless Child,

I see you.

If you’ve just lost your mother, then a holiday, like Mother’s Day may seem strange. You’ll want to acknowledge that you, too, had a mother, good, bad, or otherwise. A woman birthed or adopted you and provided you with unconditional love. But now you’re in a different club. You may walk by aisles of Mother’s Day cards, their pinks and reds taunting you. You may feel inclined to buy one, forgetting you have no one for whom this would be appropriate. Or you may feel as if someone should buy you a card as recognition for your loss. Wouldn’t it be nice if Hallmark made a greeting card that began—I know it’s Mother’s Day, and you just lost yours…? But they don’t. The most you may have is Mother’s Day at church where you’re encouraged to partake in a new tradition, wearing…
