Texas gay Republican group chair resigns over GOP’s new platform
LCR Texas leadership’s resignations come amid backlash against the state GOP’s new platform—some of it coming from high-ranking national party members. Florida Sen. Rick Scott, who helms the GOP’s Senate elections committee, said he “would not have supported” the homophobic language on Wednesday.
Scott also confirmed that he accepts the results of the 2020 election as valid and the Biden administration as legitimate. Texas Republicans parroted former president Donald Trump’s lie that widespread voter fraud cost him the election and declared President Biden an illegitimate leader in their new platform.
Former Ohio governor and 2016 Republican presidential candidate John Kasich called the Texas GOP convention a “clown show” on CNN Monday, adding that “I think even clowns were embarrassed by what they saw down there.”

Here are the members of Congress who asked Trump for a pardon after January 6 | The Independent
Representatives Mo Brooks, Matt Gaetz, Andy Biggs, Louie Gohmert and Scott Perry were among the Republican members of Congress who asked then-president Donald Trump to insulate them from future prosecutions by granting them presidential pardons in the days immediately following the attack on the US Capitol on January 6 last year.
Cassidy Hutchinson, a former special assistant to the president, said Mr Gaetz and Mr Brooks had both advocated for a “blanket pardon” for members involved in a December meeting to plan for events on January 6.
“Mr Gaetz was personally pushing for a pardon and was doing so since early December,” she said in pre-recorded testimony played by the committee.
Ms Hutchinson also said that congressman Jim Jordan talked about congressional pardons but didn’t specifically ask for one. She said of Marjorie Taylor Greene: “I heard she had asked White House Counsel Office for a pardon.”
Former deputy White House counsel Eric Herschmann, who confirmed to the panel that Mr Gaetz asked for a pardon, added: “The general tone was, ‘we may get prosecuted because we were defensive of … the president’s positions on these things.’”
Mr Brooks, an Alabama Republican, requested the pardon in an 11 January 2021 email to Mr Trump’s assistant, Molly Michael, which he wrote was being sent on behalf of himself and Mr Gaetz, a Florida Republican

Why would any poor person…

Why would any poor or middle class person and/or those who love democracy want gun – toting money – grubbing liars bent on power who buy elections?….Huh? Tell me that, — who carry guns without a permit, bent on cuts to social security, medicaid, medicare, Obamacare, and get paranoid about science (not recognizing technology as science)….Who create a teacher shortage, castrate public education, arm teachers whose anxiety level is already high and target those who aren’t mirror images of ourselves? Manipulation is the word of the day, but few call attention to it meanwhile…
….who automate jobs to avoid paying better salaries while incarcerating women who choose not to bring more innocents into this crazy, overpopulated world. (They say Amazon has several stores without living employees, and that WalMart has automated floor scrubber/waxers, in addition to self-checkouts. When will restaurant hostesses become robots?) More babies, fewer jobs. That road leads…

Pope Francis orders online release of second world war-era ‘Jewish’ files | Vatican | The Guardian
Pope Francis has ordered the online publication of 170 volumes of files relating to Jewish people from the recently opened Pope Pius XII archives, amid renewed debate about the legacy of the second world war-era pope.
The archive of 2,700 cases “gathers the requests for help sent to Pope Pius XII by Jewish people … after the beginning of Nazi and fascist persecution”, said the Vatican’s secretary for relations with states, Paul Richard Gallagher, in a statement.
Although the documents have been available for consultation by scholars since March 2020, Pope Francis requested they be accessible to everyone, said the statement. Putting the archive online “will allow the descendants of those who asked for help to find traces of their loved ones from any part of the world”, it said.

US allows commercial labs to test for monkeypox | CIDRAP
Yesterday the White House announced that commercial laboratories will be authorized to perform monkeypox tests, which will greatly increase the capacity for the nation to detect the poxvirus.
Aegis Science, Labcorp, Mayo Clinic Laboratories, Quest Diagnostics, and Sonic Healthcare will now conduct the tests.
“These commercial laboratories will dramatically expand testing capacity nationwide and make testing more convenient and accessible for patients and health care providers,” the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said in a press release. “Health care providers will be able to use these laboratories by early July and testing capacity through these companies will be ramped up throughout the month.”
US public health labs can currently process about 8,000 orthopoxvirus tests per week, but this move means tens of thousands of tests could be conducted weekly. Last week, White House officials conformed that public health labs across the country were processing roughly 60 tests per day.
