Pope Francis apologises for abuse at church schools on visit to Canada | Pope Francis | The Guardian

Pope Francis has expressed “my sorrow” for the legacy of abuse at Canada’s residential schools, asking survivors of the church-run system for forgiveness as he tours the country on a “pilgrimage of penance”.

The pontiff’s widely anticipated apology came during a Monday morning visit to the community of Maskwacis, Alberta – the first formal event of his one-week tour after landing in the western province on Sunday.

I am sorry. I ask for forgiveness, in particular, for the ways in which many members of the Church and of religious communities co-operated, not least through their indifference, in projects of cultural destruction and forced assimilation promoted by the governments of that time, which culminated in the system of residential schools,” Francis said, telling nearly 2,000 survivors of the residential school system of his “indignation” and “shame” over the “painful” memory of the treatment of Indigenous children.

1792 Case Of Nancy Rudolph Abortion Shows Founders Did Not Punish Procedure – Second Nexus

Multiple historical sources prove reproductive choices were strictly private matters, not interfered with by outside parties during the time of the drafting of the Constitution. Herbs were widely used to induce miscarriages when a pregnancy termination was wanted and drugs to induce abortions were openly advertised in newspapers to be bought from pharmacists, physicians or through the mail and if drugs failed, people could visit practitioners for instrumental abortions.

As detailed from United States history by The Washington Post, a 1792 case even gets the approval of several founding fathers, including the mentor of one of the chief architects of the United States Constitution—Thomas Jefferson who mentored James Madison. Three United States founders from Virginia—Jefferson, Patrick Henry and John Marshall—sought no charges in a sensational court case where evidence of an abortion was found.

In 1792, an 18-year-old unwed woman, Nancy Randolph, allegedly became pregnant by her 22-year-old brother-in-law and cousin, Richard Randolph. Nancy lived with Richard and his wife, her sister Judith. When Martha Jefferson Randolph—Thomas Jefferson’s daughter who was cousin and sister-in-law to Nancy and Judith—visited in September, she recommended Nancy use gum of guaiacum to end the pregnancy and sent her some later with the note it would “produce an abortion.”

Two weeks later on a visit to another of their cousins, Nancy Randolph induced the miscarriage and abortion then disposed of the fetus on the property where it was found by one of the slaves leading to rumors and scandal among the upper society which eventually reached Martha’s father Thomas Jefferson.

In his letter to her, Jefferson expressed only sympathy for Nancy, writing:

I see guilt but in one person, and not in her.”

Eventually Richard Randolph was charged with “feloniously murdering a child delivered of the body of Nancy Randolph or being accessory to the same” based on rumors the fetus was full-term, Nancy had given birth to a live child and Richard killed it to avoid charges of incest—a crime in Virginia at the time.

But evidence suggested a deliberate second-trimester abortion and not a live birth of a viable infant.

In April 1793, Richard appeared before a tribunal of county judges acting much as a grand jury does today, deciding if the charges should be adjudicated. Richard was defended by Patrick Henry, John Marshall—future U.S. Supreme Court chief justice and William Campbell—U.S. attorney for Virginia.

Evidence of both Nancy and Martha’s part in inducing an abortion was presented and documented, but neither woman was charged with any crime. The only illegal act—Richard killing a living infant—was considered disproven and all charges dropped.

The 11th Airborne continued their patrols, moping up details and training at Lipa. General Swing had another jump school built that created 1,000 newly qualified paratroopers. Plus, the entertainer, Joe E. Brown came to visit.

The new glider school concentrated on the “snatch pickup” method, whereby a CG-4A Glider on the ground with a towrope and a C-47 with a hook. As the plane goes overhead at an altitude of 15 feet, it snatches up the glider and brings it to 120 mph in a matter of a few seconds. (The noise from the plane, shock and whiplash must have been overwhelming.).  With May drawing to a close and the Japanese Army being pushed to the northeast corner of Luzon, the men of the division began to realize something was afoot.

Liberdade

Pensamentos.me/VEM comigo!

Liberdade

A liberdade quando não é administrada corretamente, torna-se uma espécie de caminho restrito. E, entenda uma coisa: não é para os aventureiros não, é pra você. Sabe como? Ela Amontoa as dúvidas, pede prudência.

snapshotsincursive

What’s Cooking in Gail’s Kitchen? Enjoyable Eats: Jalisco Pico de Gallo! It wasn’t until recently I dined at a family-owned Mexican cantina where the recipes truly originated from Guadalajara. I know this because the waitress explained that Jalisco-style dishes might taste different than anything else I tried before. “For starters,” she explained, “only fresh vegetables are used. We use Mexican oregano for flavor.” I was intrigued. So much so, I made a batch of pico de gallo when I returned home. The Jalisco-style street tacos come later. Stick around and tell me what you think.

4 pro-democracy activists executed in Myanmar (Me: New low for military usurpers)

The military junta in Myanmar executed four people, including top political activists, a spokesperson for the regime said on Monday.

Executions were carried out over the weekend, and the military regime denied bodies to their families, according to a local news website, adding that Kyaw Min Yu, better known as Jimmy, former lawmaker Phyo Zayar Thaw, Hla Myo Aung, and Aung Thura Zaw were arrested last year.

According to Myanmar’s Junta mouthpiece Global New Light, the four were charged of “brutal murdering cases” on March 14, 2021.

Kyaw Min Yu, 53, was a veteran of the 1988 pro-democracy uprising in the Buddhist-majority nation, while Phyo Zeya Thaw, a 41-year-old ally of ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi and National League for Democracy lawmaker, lost their appeals against the sentences in June, the website reported.

It is for the first time since the 1980s that Myanmar has carried out executions.

Vaccine Breaking News — Precision Vaccinations – Monkeypox vaccine

As of July 21, 2022, HHS had distributed nearly 200,000 Jynneos vaccines to priority cities and accelerated the inspection of approximately 800,000 vaccines for delivery this summer while procuring millions more for delivery in mid-2023.

Over the coming days and weeks, HHS continued on July 21, 2022, it will continue to strengthen and accelerate its strategy on combatting monkeypox.

As U.S. FDA completes its review of the Bavarian Nordic facility, expected by the end of July 2022, HHS’ Strategic National Stockpile is preparing to quickly and efficiently distribute the approximate 786,000 doses that would come available.

  • HHS continues to work with Bavarian Nordic to preposition those doses in the USA to be more available.
  • HHS will expeditiously announce allocations of the 786,000 doses so U.S. jurisdictions can immediately make requests.
  • Orders from states and jurisdictions for vaccines are delivered on average within 30 hours of being placed.
  • HHS will seek additional data from jurisdictions regarding vaccine use data.

HHS has allocated vaccines to states and cities based on both the case burden and the size of the underlying population at the highest risk of severe disease and infection.

In its most recent vaccine allocation, HHS revised its formula to be more reflective of case burden, shifting from a 50% case burden and 50% at-risk model to a 75% case burden and 25% at-risk allocation to be most responsive to communities experiencing the most significant impacts of the outbreak.

As an example, approximately 26,000 additional Jynneos doses were delivered to New York City on July 21, 2022, as part of Phase 2b allocations.

According to the U.S. CDC’s outbreak report issued on July 22, 2022, New York City, Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and San Francisco have confirmed a large majority of the 2,891 monkeypox cases since May 2022.

And HHS confirmed it would continue to adapt the vaccine allocation strategy with each vaccine allocation and distribution phase.
