Agora, bateu ” vamos prender”. Bem, nesse caso, o problema caminha em outra direção.
Penso que não é por aí, a…

Orange County Declares Health Emergency Due To Respiratory Infections | LAist (California – Mask up and Wash hands often!)

Orange County officials declared a health emergency because of rapidly spreading viral infections that have caused record numbers of pediatric hospitalizations and daily emergency room visits. The emergency proclamations allow the county to use state and federal resources and get mutual aid from other counties.

Why now? During the last two-plus years of masking and social distancing and other precautions people took to protect themselves from COVID-19, fewer people ended up in the hospital because of common respiratory viruses like RSV and the flu. Now that those precautions have largely been lifted, these viruses are spreading fast again, hitting babies and other young children especially hard because RSV tends to make kids sickest the first time they get it.

so you saw
behind the makeup

those freckles
pass the smile
pass the thrilling laughter
you saw

I'm an orb in a box
rolling rattling splintering

shattered when I
saw you.

Even more dry shampoos found to have cancer-causing agent – Los Angeles Times

Top-selling dry shampoos such as Not Your Mother’s and Church & Dwight Co.’s Batiste contain high levels of benzene, the cancer-causing chemical that led Unilever to yank its product from shelves in October, according to a new independent study.

Valisure, a New Haven, Conn.-based analytical laboratory, tested 148 batches from 34 brands of spray-on dry shampoo and found that 70% contained benzene. The chemical can cause certain blood cancers, such as leukemia. The company filed a petition Monday with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration seeking to have the products that contain the substance recalled.

The results add to concerns that products sold over the counter in pharmacies and grocery stores across the United States could present previously undetected health risks.

Over the last year, Valisure has found benzene in popular spray sunscreens, antiperspirants and hand sanitizers. Stores have pulled the products from shelves, while regulators and manufacturers are looking more closely at whether impurities are slipping by unnoticed in a complex supply chain.

Appeals court turns away GOP challenge to NY absentee ballot laws – Gothamist

A state appeals court reversed a Republican-led challenge to New York’s absentee-voting laws, declining the party’s attempt to invalidate perhaps hundreds of thousands of mail-in ballots.

The Appellate Division, Third Department, on Tuesday unanimously upheld a law allowing anyone to vote absentee if they’re afraid of catching or spreading an infectious disease, such as COVID-19. The law is set to remain in place through 2022.

The COVID-era voting law “was enacted in 2020 and has been in effect for multiple general, primary and special elections but petitioners did not challenge the statute until nine months after the sunset clause was extended and after the mailing of absentee ballots had already begun,” the unanimous, 10-page decision reads. “In short, petitioners delayed too long in bringing this proceeding/action.”

In its decision, the five-judge, mid-level court also upheld a 2021 law that changed when absentee ballots are opened. The new law requires local election officials to inspect the ballots and prepare them for counting prior to Election Day. Republicans argued the ballots should be counted afterward, as had been done for decades prior.

Hiltzik: ProPublica’s flop on COVID’s origins – Los Angeles Times

The article is based heavily on Chinese-language documents that appear to have been mistranslated and misinterpreted, according to Chinese language experts who have piled on via social media since its publication.

It also takes as gospel a report by a rump group of Republican congressional staff members asserting that the pandemic was “more likely than not, the result of a research-related incident.”

Editorial: GOP responds to Pelosi attack with cruel, baseless jokes. It’s shameful – Los Angeles Times

Instead of treating it for what it is — a reprehensible breach of American values and a dangerous threat to democracy in the heat of election season — they are making jokes and spreading homophobic falsehoods. As if that’s not bad enough, some have the gall to portray themselves as victims when reasonable people push back at this cruel disinformation campaign.

Kari Lake, the GOP nominee for governor of Arizona, used the attack as a bizarre punch line in remarks at a campaign event Monday when she was asked about school security. “Nancy Pelosi, well, she’s got protection when she’s in D.C. — apparently her house doesn’t have a lot of protection,” Lake said to laughter from audience members so depraved that they apparently find humor in an 82-year-old man being hit over the head with a hammer so savagely that he remains hospitalized with a skull fracture.

Ở cửa hàng đồng nát

A poem in English by Charles Simic

--

IN THE JUNK STORE

A small, straw basket
Full of medals
From good old wars
No one recalls.

I flipped one over
To feel the pin
That once pierced
The hero's swelling chest.
