In the United States, solar accounted for more than half of all new power last year. But the most dramatic growth is happening overseas. The latest global report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) notes that solar is on track to overtake all other forms of energy by 2033. The world’s use of fossil fuels is already plateauing (the U.S., for its part, hit its peak demand for fossil-fuel energy way back in 2007). Energy demand is still rising, but renewables are stepping in to make up the difference. “The really interesting debate now,” Bond said, “is actually: When do we push fossil fuels off the plateau? And from our numbers, if solar keeps on growing this way, it’s going to be off the plateau by the end of this decade.”

Former Rep. Liz Cheney on Friday responded forcefully to violent comments made by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump suggesting she have “nine barrels shooting at her face.”
The former Republican congresswoman from Wyoming, arguably Trump’s biggest critic within the GOP, has endorsed his Democratic opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, in Tuesday’s election while calling the former president “dangerous.”

O engarrafei…

Novembergrau… Das Wesentliche… Sonne im Herzen… All-liebendes-Sein… *** Elke, 01.11.2024
Novembergrau…
There are many things that bother me deeply about this election, things that keep me awake at night, that raise my angst to unhealthy levels, but the worst thing about it all is … the intolerance and hatred that it has brought out among the people of this country. Families have been torn apart, marriages destroyed, long-time friendships ended with a venomous spew. These are relationships that, no matter the outcome of the election, will not be repaired, are not reparable. The ‘legacy’ of the 2024 election will last for generations, the wounds will not heal in our lifetime … perhaps they never will.
And on that note, I shall turn this discussion over to Elliot Kirschner …
…One of the arguments for why Trump is doing so well in the polls is that people don’t really believe what he’s saying. But have you ever heard Trump laugh? Is there ever a twinkle of, “I’m only joking,” in his eyes? We don’t have to read his mind to figure out what he really intends. We have more than enough evidence from what we saw on January 6. That was a mob whipped into a fury of violence by hate. But Trump calls it “a day of love.” He echoed that sentiment when he called the Garden rally a “love fest.”
It’s Orwellian.
I hate hate. The real kind. The kind that has led to mass death and suffering throughout history. This kind of hate has been part of this nation since its founding. It led to the extermination of Native peoples, the abominable slave trade, lynchings, and Jim Crow. It fueled the demonization of immigrants from Southern and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, the internment of Japanese Americans, the Red Scare, persecution of the LGBTQ+ community, the scapegoating of public health officials during the pandemic, and so much more.
Trump didn’t invent hate in America, but he knows how to embrace it, exploit it, and use it to fuel his rise to power.
…I despise cynicism. I despise divisiveness. But I don’t hate Republicans. I do, however, hate demagogues and fascists who lie, cheat, and would eagerly destroy American democracy.
“Hate” is a strong word, but sometimes it’s deserved. Make of that what you will.
