Review: Anna J. Cooper’s A Voice From The South, By A Woman of The South — collaboration with learners

Originally posted on Inspiring Critical Thinking and Community via Books, Lessons, and Story: I got this book from Gutenberg project, initially, but found a cleaner pdf, and then epub versions on The Internet Archive. – Interesting ending, on belief. I held off on rating this for a while, and then rated it a 4 star…

Study: Some parents lied about COVID-19 status of children – UPI.com (Me: How many died for their lies?)

A new study shows 25% of U.S. parents lied about their children’s health status throughout the COVID-19 pandemic to sidestep public health restrictions that were designed to keep sick kids home from school.

To Those Who Plagiarise

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

To Those Who Plagiarise

I have a copy of my mother’s tears
My hands shook in every verse
I even have a copy of a tiny pebble
And the pebble did not once care.

I copied a verse from the wind
The scent of white cedar in March
An empty backyard white with blooms
A trickling river by the banana grove.

I took a verse from the shadow
The piercing pain from the light
Discerning through the rustling leaves
A nameless autumn.

I took a peek at a verse about the world
Through the whistling kite’s lullaby
Made a copy of the pain the grass had to bear
The verses in the eyes of nemesis there.

I’m appreciative of those who betrayed me
Scattered loneliness in the dying…

Under the woven cloche

Nguyễn Thị Phương Trâm

Sunset @Bến Hoàng Hoa, Vietnam by Tieng Bac Dang

Under the woven cloche

& a new pup
eyes still completely shut
crying pitifully in the dark
placard like the truth
under the cover of the cloche
away from harmful flies
but also a cover for
the mouths of babes
begging to consume what is right.

So hungry, they had
to sell. Twenty cents
a handful of fur
ash grey & an eye
still shut in the dying light
war
there’s not enough time to pass on their gene
deteriorating destiny.

A! A generation of old men living as professional
spies through the holes of the woven cloche
to end up fighting with cockroaches
over leftover rice for the rest of their life.
