Anger and fear after popular diabetes app breaks – BBC News

Abbott, which manufactures the FreeStyle Libre device, says it is the top sensor-based glucose monitoring system used worldwide.

But its app has stopped working on some Apple devices, and it has now been withdrawn from the App Store.

The NHS says there are 200,000 people using these types of sensors in the UK.

Actors Say Hollywood Studios Want Their AI Replicas — For Free, Forever – Slashdot

Crabtree-Ireland said that “This ‘groundbreaking’ AI proposal that they gave us yesterday, they proposed that our background performers should be able to be scanned, get one day’s pay, and their companies should own that scan, their image, their likeness and should be able to use it for the rest of eternity on any project they want, with no consent and no compensation. What in the Segregation Is This? Arizona Republican Calls Black People ‘Colored’ During House Floor Debate

Crane, a combat veteran who is currently in his first term, stated: “My amendment has nothing to do with whether or not colored people or Black people or anybody can serve. It has nothing to do with any of that stuff.” Republican-backed amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act was at the center of the debate. The House adopted Crane’s amendment Thursday night in a 214-210 vote. Source: What in the Segregation Is This? Arizona Republican Calls Black People ‘Colored’ During House Floor Debate

Context, Thought, and Learning: ShiraDest Offers Project Do Better

While I am no longer actively working on posting for French Fridays, I am still waiting for Omar Sy’s incarnation of Lupin to continue (and hoping that I will have access to Netflix when it does, in October…), and still listening to the occasional audio book written by Alexandre Dumas.  I have just finished listening to one which I will write up here, for review, soon.

(originally post was scheduled for  2nd of June…) While I no longer give talks on my PhD work, as I see locally issued currencies as less important than public infrastructure, though still a potential tool, if used in conjunction with other tools by a very well-educated local community.  This is discussed more in Phase III, if I recall, of the Do Better mancropped-dobettercover.jpg

It’s Gone Too Far! | Filosofa’s Word

The United States is rapidly devolving into a country of intolerance, one that welcomes only white Christians … straight white Christians.  The exclusion of all others, or the attempts to exclude all those who don’t fit into today’s interpretation of the Christian ideology, who don’t fall in line with those beliefs, is not the principle upon which this nation planted its roots.  Interesting, isn’t it, that the religious right (not just any religion or every religion, but one single religion) is up in arms over the teaching in schools of racism and discrimination in our history, of gender issues, of other cultures and norms, and yet … they would force Christianity onto every school child, force Christian prayers on Muslim, Jewish, and atheist children.  They talk about the teaching of history and gender issues as “indoctrination” but can there be anything more indoctrinating than forcing children to recite the prayers of one sect of one single religion?  I cannot live in a country dominated by religion, especially a single religion that I do not believe in. London measles warning: Outbreak could hit tens of thousands – BBC News

Immunisations also took a significant dip in the early 2000s after claims of a link between the MMR jab and autism. This has been completely discredited and the doctor who pushed the idea, Andrew Wakefield, was struck off the medical register.

But measles is one of the most contagious diseases around, and growing numbers of people are without protection. Scientists at the UKHSA and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have run the numbers to reach those predictions of tens of thousands of cases in the capital.

This is a theoretical risk, rather than saying we are already at the start of a huge measles outbreak. There have been 128 cases so far this year, compared with 54 in the whole of 2022.

But the latest risk assessment suggests the R number – if you remember from Covid that’s the number of people an infected person gives the virus to – has exceeded, or is close to 1.0, which is the point where a virus can take off.

The assessment also highlights 19 to 25-year-olds – who would have missed out at the peak of the autism scare – as being the most susceptible. There is heightened concern around university students.

Brevard Republicans move to ban COVID-19 vaccine as ‘biological weapon’ (Me: Florida GOP going full QAnon crazy about Covid Vaccines)

“Strong and credible evidence has recently been revealed that Covid-19 and Covid-19 injections are biological and technological weapons,” the Brevard draft resolution says.

“An enormous number of humans have died or been permanently disabled” by the vaccine, it says. “Government agencies, media and tech companies, and other corporations, have committed enormous fraud by claiming Covid-19 injections are safe and effective.”
