Goodbye, ‘23; Hello, ‘24! – Color My World
…But even as we thank God and pray for more blessings for the new year, my heart goes to far-off lands: to Gaza, to Ukraine, and to other areas where hate, oppression and injustice continue to prevail. While we are lucky to enjoy abundance and tranquility in our neck of the woods, there are brothers and sisters in these distant frontiers whose pain we must reflect on. Let us pray for brotherhood and peace, for patience and understanding, for love and compassion, to soothe the scorched earth. In our own small way, let us provide what little cheer we can, and try to undo the hatred, the pain we as a collective humanity continue inflicting on one another.

Let love prevail over hate. Let patience and understanding reign. Mine is just the smallest of voices, but together, we can certainly make a difference.

Let’s all strive to be inclusive instead of exclusive. We are all one flesh and blood so there is no denying it. Whatever we send out ricochets back to us.

Indigenous Gurung farmers revive climate-resilient millet in Nepal
- Indigenous Gurung farmers in central Nepal are trying to revive the cultivation of an almost-forgotten, drought-resilient crop: foxtail millet.
- This hardy grain was traditionally farmed as a famine crop because it grows at a time of the year when farmers are finished harvesting other crops like rice, maize and wheat.
- With Nepal experiencing increasingly unpredictable changes in weather and droughts that affect their harvests, proponents say local crops like foxtail millet have the potential to help farmers adapt to the changing climate.
- Over the past seven years, organic farming of the crop has seen consistent growth, thanks to the help of a community seed bank.
