First Female Teacher of India – Kaushal Kishore

 

Savitribai Phule, acknowledged as India’s first female educator and a trailblazer, defied societal norms in her pursuit of women’s education, equality, and justice. Her life epitomised the unyielding spirit of women’s empowerment.

Today, on her 193rd birth anniversary, while paying homage to her, I share some important anchors of her inspiring life.

Born on January 3, 1831, in Maharashtra’s Naigaon village, Savitribai Phule, a Dalit woman from the Mali community, faced an early marriage at the age of 10. However, her husband Jyotirao Phule, who was 13, supported her education. Jyotirao educated her at home and later enrolled her in a teachers’ training institution in Pune, paving the way for her to become a teacher for girls…

COVID Is ‘Still a Pandemic,’ WHO Leader Says – The Messenger

Marian Van Kerkhove, M.D., who led the organization’s response to the virus, wrote on X over the weekend that she was “worried” about the current state of the global outbreak heading into the fifth year since the virus’s eruption.

“It’s still a global health threat and it’s still a pandemic causing far too many (re)infections, hospitalizations, deaths and long covid when tools exist to prevent them,” she wrote.
