Today, I’m plugging into an outlet of gratitude. You can call it thanksgiving, thankfulness, appreciation, or any plethora of nouns you want to tag it as. But today, I am stepping away from the keyboard to give my eyes a bit of rest, well after I finish this post of course, and taking a dive into an ocean of gratitude and recharging.
When spring arrived this week, it was a refreshing welcome, but it also brought along its share of challenges. Now this isn’t something new, but for this moment we owe it to ourselves to push away from our desks and soak in a few moments of much-needed reflection and relaxation.
I am allowing myself to take a step back, unwind and regroup. Just like I have to plug my mobile devices into their designated chargers when their batteries run low, it behooves us to do the same. Sometimes we become a little overwhelmed and frustrated because we push ourselves to aggressive “limited limits.” Our buttons are pushed in rush mode, and then we find ourselves in a funk…a deep one at that. Can you say “Burnout, overwhelmed, over-my-head” boys and girls?
So, today, let’s keep this simple. If you need to step away and unplug for a little while or for the day, heck it can be for the weekend for that matter, so that you can get recharged, then just do it! If you don’t, then who will? If you passed out, then what? I won’t torment you to leave a comment today, but I implore you to take a break if need be. No running on empty today if you can help it. Love to you all. 💖

Todo apunta a que esto es resultado del incremento global de la temperatura y los efectos del cambio climático, pero lo cierto es que, como bien sabe la comunidad científica, pocas veces una sola causa justifica un resultado.

The YouTube channel Lost in Time has taken footage from the legendary Lumière brothers, originally shot in 1896, then upscaled and colorized it, giving us a chance to see a distant world through a modern lens. Nearing the end of the 19th century, the film pioneers (and their employees) visited different parts of the world and captured footage of life in Barcelona, Jerusalem, Venice, Moscow, Istanbul, Kyoto and other locations. For viewers, unaccustomed to seeing moving films, let alone far-flung parts of the world, it must have been a sight to behold. Below, you can see the different places featured in the footage, along with timestamps. To see what the original black & white footage looked like, visit this post in our archive.

Growing up moving around quite a bit within the States and Spain, my parents from two different countries, and having two older brothers, my mind was often on gender and geographic politics, even at the age of four. As early as I could handle paper and pen, writing became a means of making sense of things (more on my background and books here).
Back then, I delighted in being a novelty. At the same time, I knew enough that it was tragic how presidents and kings war over map lines, treat people unjustly because of them, and use them to decree who can’t marry whom.
Now I delight in how citizens are taking matters into their own hands. These days, it’s hard to find anyone on my street who isn’t some sort of blend and proud of it. There’s everything to gain from meeting people from everywhere and reaping all the good we can teach each other.
My husband, Khashayar, is from Iran, which means extra celebrating at the Spring Equinox. Persian New Year is cultural, not religious. Cuntries that also celebrate it include Iraq, Afghanistan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, India, and Albania. Even Japan celebrates it’s own version.
Here’s a speech about it I did during my stint as a member of Toastmasters, an organization that teaches public speaking and leadership skills…
