Love Ambush + Konnichiwa Hola Hello! by Mari – Happiness Between Tails by da-AL

What is it with people thinking they ought to decree who should love who?! Don’t get me wrong — I’m not saying the U.S. is the only country that can make things difficult. Locally, though, if I had a penny for all the people who ‘warned’ me that my Iranian husband was only marrying me to qualify for U.S. citizenship and that “you know those men become monsters once they marry a woman” — grrrrr!!! As a writer, at least I can repurpose horribleness as facets of my novels.

Just this morning, a neighbor recounted that merely twenty years ago, while she dated her husband, a restaurant in Burbank and another in Orange County told them to leave. Can you imagine?! Not that it should matter, she’s Mexican American and he’s Filipino American.

Don’t you just adore it when love counterattacks politics, greed, self-interests, bigotry, and the rest of the evils?

Today’s guest post is by blogger Ms. LILI, aka Mari, aka Lili en Florida – Florida, Japanese Mom of 4 (👧👧👦👶) × Cuban Dad, whose writing is as endearing as it is understated and cut-to-the-chase-vivid.. She’s a teacher, writer, motorcycle and car enthusiast, gamer, and musician who overcame discrimination against her dating her Cuban American now-husband…

Kein Gift in Schutzgebieten / … No poison in protected areas – Stella, oh, Stella

… As the situation might be similar in other European countries, I publish this text in English as well, after the German version. Maybe you can find out, what the status is in your country. In Denmark we have in some protected areas agriculture, not everywhere. I don’t know yet, how the poison situation in those cases is. In my opinion it is utterly grotesque to allow field poisons in nature reserves.

No poison in protected areas – Action before the Federal Council (of Germany)

Toxic pesticides and protected areas – they don’t go together, do they? Nevertheless, conventional farming is allowed in most protected areas in Germany. Pesticides are even used that have been proven to harm biodiversity. Areas that should actually be safe havens for flora and fauna often become danger zones for butterflies, beetles and frogs. That’s why we are running a major campaign to ensure that chemical-synthetic pesticides are finally completely banned in protected areas. In order to achieve this goal, we want to, among other things, print thousands of information flyers, conduct background discussions with journalists, commission a scientific study and organize a dramatic protest. Your support is crucial for this. Only with your donation can we free protected areas from agricultural toxins!

At the beginning of her term in office, Environment Minister Steffi Lemke raised hopes that pesticides could at least be completely banned from the particularly strictly protected nature reserves. But nothing remains of this project: the federal government has just revised the crucial regulation. But there is no trace of the urgently needed tightening measures. We still have the chance to prevent endangered animals such as the sky blue, the adder and the crested lark from disappearing completely from our landscape. Because if the Federal Council rejects the regulation in the planned form, the federal government will have to make improvements. That’s why we want to confront the Federal Council with our demands at the crucial moment in a provocative action. We need your help for this.

Our plan: On their way to the meeting in which the relevant regulation is being discussed, the government members of the federal states have to pass a disturbing scene: a flock of tree frogs (of course not real frogs but extras) spraying themselves with “pesticides “Writhing on the ground in front of the Federal Council building; around them there are demonstrators who present signs and banners with our demand “No poison in protected areas!” With this campaign we want to make the members of the Federal Council aware of the fatal effects of the use of pesticides. But if we really want to make an impression, such an action involves a lot of effort and costs. Please help us with your donation to realize the symbolic death of the frog in front of the Federal Council! Only with your support can we get the Federal Council to demand improvements from the federal government so that endangered species in protected areas are spared from agricultural poisons in the future.
