Responsible? | From Behind the Pen

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well.” -Martin Luther King, Jr.

More often these days, we hear echoes or screams about people shirking their responsibilities regardless of what that responsibility is. When one has a duty to fulfill or an assignment to complete, are we committed to seeing the job through or do we simply shrug our shoulders, walk away, and think the next person will certainly take care of it?

Upholding and committing to our accountability and dependability speaks a lot about our character and the conversation of our conduct. As a society, we can get farther if we simply do our part, not that of the next person or the person next to them, because there will definitely be a domino effect when we fall down on the job, whatever that job may be.

Our blatant negligence could make the person next to you fall, and the action will continue if someone does not try to prevent a further disaster. Are we as reliable as we could be or should be, not on everything, but the things within our level of care and responsibility? How can we do more to raise the bar of “excellence beyond expectation” to take care of and nurture something or someone so precious?

‘Confusion is an element of hybrid influence’ Russia publishes — then denies — plans to unilaterally change Baltic Sea border — Meduza

On May 21, the Russian Defense Ministry published a draft decree that, if approved, would unilaterally change its maritime borders with Lithuania and Finland. Then, on Tuesday, multiple Russian state media outlets reported that, according to a “military-diplomatic source,” the authorities were never planning to alter the boundary. By Wednesday afternoon, the document had disappeared from the Russian government’s website. Meduza explains how the episode unfolded and how Russia’s neighbors on the Baltic responded.

Swedish commander: Putin aims to control Baltic Sea, has his eye on Gotland Island

Russian President Vladimir Putin may be seeking dominance over the Baltic Sea and has his eye on the Swedish island of Gotland, Micael Byden, the supreme commander of the Swedish Armed Forces, said in an interview with the German media network RND published on May 22.

A day earlier, Russia unveiled its plans to unilaterally change the maritime border with Lithuania and Finland in the Baltic Sea. Moscow intends to appropriate inland sea waters in the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland and near the cities of Baltiysk and Zelenogradsk in Kaliningrad Oblast, according to a decree prepared by the Russian Defense Ministry.

“I am confident that Putin even has both eyes on Gotland. Putin’s goal is to gain control of the Baltic Sea,” Byden said.

“Who controls Gotland controls the Baltic Sea.”

Songs I Like (37) | beetleypete

Lewis Capaldi is a very popular Scottish singer-songwriter, and still only 27 years old. This song topped the UK charts in 2018, and the US charts the year after. He is one of my wife’s favourites, and she has been to see him live in concert. I haven’t heard that much of his music, but I did like the song that made him famous.

The lyrics are on the video.
