Pennsylvania Republicans walk out on officers who defended Capitol on Jan. 6 – The Washington Post

Former U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn and former sergeant Aquilino Gonell were introduced on the floor Wednesday as “heroes” by House Speaker Joanna McClinton (D) for having “bravely defended democracy in the United States Capitol against rioters and insurrection on Jan. 6.”

As the two men — both of whom were injured by rioters on Jan. 6 — were introduced, the House floor descended into chaos. According to Democratic lawmakers, several GOP lawmakers hissed and booed, with a number of Republicans walking out of the chamber in protest.

White House Announces Steps to Strengthen Tribal Food Sovereignty | Food Manufacturing

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack on Wednesday announced a series of actions by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to strengthen Tribal sovereignty and fulfill long-standing Tribal requests for USDA to better partner with Tribal Nations, and make the overall food system more resilient.

The announcements include over $42 million for awardees under the Indigenous Animals Harvesting and Meat Processing Grant Program, $18 million for projects under the Tribal Forest Protection Act, and $2.3 million to support the service of Indigenous foods in school meal programs. Vilsack also announced that USDA has welcomed a class of interns specifically focused on Tribal agriculture and food sovereignty, and he noted that later this month USDA will sponsor its first-ever international trade mission focused on Tribal Nation and Native Hawaiian Community businesses, products and priorities.

Global temperature is likely to exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial level temporarily in next 5 years

There is an 80 percent likelihood that the annual average global temperature will temporarily exceed 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels for at least one of the next five years, according to a new report from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This is a stark warning that we are getting ever closer to the goals set in the Paris Agreement on climate change, which refers to long-term temperature increases over decades, not over one to five years.

Key messages
  • 80% likelihood of at least one year temporarily exceeding 1.5°C between 2024-2028
  • Short-term (annual) warming does not equate to a permanent breach of the lower 1.5°C Paris Agreement goal
  • Likely that at least one of next five years will be the warmest on record, beating 2023
  • Report highlights urgency of climate action

A Fortune That Doesn’t Cost a Cookie | From Behind the Pen

Sometimes reminders about doing the simplest things can be the most challenging to do. I opted to change my mind about eating leftovers again a few days ago and wanted to cleanse my palate (and no, not by eating sorbet to cleanse my taste buds), but by changing up what I wanted to eat that day. Seems pretty simple right? So, we ordered Chinese food for lunch.

Well, low and behold, when I cracked open my ‘fortune cookie’ the following ‘fortune’ was in it:

“If you never change your mind, why have one? -Fortune Cookie

Hmmmm, I thought as I rubbed my chin. That’s not complicated, right? Of course not. So for the rest of the day, I decided to forego any of the serious stuff that would give me a brain fart! I changed my mind. Oh yes, I did. Why? Because I could, and I wanted to. But, before having some fun for the rest of the afternoon, I thanked my fortune cookie for the message before I ate it! 🥠

♫ Georgy Girl ♫ (Redux) | Filosofa’s Word

The song became a hit in late 1966 and early 1967, reaching in Australia and in the United Kingdom. In the United States, it was the Seekers’ highest charting single, reaching on the Cash Box Top 100. Georgy Girl reached on the Billboard Hot 100; I’m a Believer by The Monkees, kept the song from number one. The song’s US success prompted the Seekers’ British album Come the Day to be retitled Georgy Girl for its American release.

Other than that, I don’t find much background trivia about the song, so …
