(fos) is a young multi-disciplinary design team out of Madrid and Barcelona who are already turning heads with their first project. Using only tape and paint, this trio has managed to created a rather vibrant installation that tricks the eye in a very pleasing manner. I love the way they were able to incorporate the effect by painting over top the tables, chair and paintings, making it feel like the light is starting to take over the world.
Rajab Mohammed al-Toum has lived through six different periods of Palestine’s history, beginning with the rule of the Ottoman Empire, to the British Mandate, Egyptian reign, Israeli occupation, the Palestinian Authority and finally Hamas’ control over the Gaza Strip.
Sweet dreams of peace and justice, mercy, joy, and freedom
Last month, we saw photographic evidence that dancing enthusiast Christopher Walken was randomly picked up by two strangers who saw him struggling to hail a cab on the Upper West Side. Sergio P. told us that he and his friend Ash K., both 38, had been driving down Columbus Avenue around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday Nov. 19th when they spotted the iconic actor: \”He said he was hailing a cab. Wasn\’t weirded out [by the situation], but did look at us both and into the car. We were really nice and told him we were fans and would be honored to give him a lift. [He was] totally cool with it.\” So now you know how to act if you happen to drive by Walken.
\”I have never picked up anyone. Not an actor or a random person,\” Sergio told us. Walken told them politely, \”I don\’t want you guys to go out of your way. I am going straight downtown and you can leave me anywhere.\” Sergio described a little bit of what the three men talked about as they drove from around W. 83rd Street to somewhere in the W. 40s: \”Since we were in NY he knew the area well but couldn\’t believe how much things had changed. Also told us he was born in Astoria Hospital, because my son went to St. John\’s High School. We talked about neighborhoods in NY and acting—he gave [Ash] advice on acting.\”
The best part: Walken is even nicer than we imagined. \”We had time to talk because there was traffic but it was moving. When we stopped at his destination he didn\’t immediately get out. Finished the conversation and got out a few minutes after.\” So feel free to kindly offer Walken a ride if you see him—it\’s probably better that way than the other way around.
So, you\’re walking down the street in Huntington Beach and you see a Lamborghini on the side of the road. Naturally, you stop and check it out. But wait, what\’s this? People have crowded around this yellow beacon of fast driving and money.
\”Why?\” you ask yourself.
Because there\’s a bear just hanging out in the passenger seat. The driver\’s pet bear
Local Mission Market is the first locally-sourced and handmade market. Beyond the bounty of exclusively and directly-sourced Central and Northern Californian fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, oil, vinegar, rice and beans, we craft, package, and label every bread, pasta, jam, pickle, cracker, condiment, sausage, cured fish, and more on-site and by-hand. As committed as we are to old-world and from-scratch production, we also pioneered a full webstore for pick-up and delivery and a custom in-store iPad app for weighed items and quicker checkouts.
Today my world doesn\’t feel safe. Does yours?
I want that elusive world peace just like you do. But it\’s not going to happen in my personal village of trees unless I make the right choices. So.
I will choose to plow uneven fields with as much love as I can muster. I will carve out safe places for people who need it. I will try to love my neighbor and follow the Golden Rule. The materials I need are not hard to find. I already have them. And I won\’t need any money. All I have to do is plow up the ground and plant.
If I could choose to become a woman who only runs to the safety of quilts instead of a bed of leaves, I would choose the latter and leave the pretty patchwork behind.
Because there is no more beautiful place in the world than to understand that it is not about the leaving behind of my comforts anymore, it\’s about how much of myself I am willing to scatter around in that pile of kaleidoscope leaves. There is beauty in the unknown. There is joy in the cobwebs of Earth. There is freedom in giving. And there is no safer place than to wallow around in a boudoir of acorns not knowing which nut you might find, but knowing you\’ll be OK if you do.
The safe place is not a place at all. The safe place is me.
Find your tree.
Make a stand.

The camera is mounted on the outside of our office, on the 4th floor. The office is in central Amsterdam above the Singel canal and the busy junction between the flower market (off-screen right) the roads that run between the shops, hotels, cinemas and restaurants at Leidseplein (bottom right corner) and the popular shopping areas of Spui (top left) and Kalverstraat (top centre). Check the Contact page for details and a photo of the office building. To be specific, the camera is located below the turret, a little to the right.
