‘I witnessed the Stockholm attack three years after terrorists killed my brother – we mustn’t give in to fear’ – The Local

The death of my brother made me think. I thought more and more deeply about the reasons behind terrorism, which took him and his family away from us. I reasoned with myself to find if there could really be a purpose their death served. And there wasn’t. It did not serve any purpose. It is not justifiable under any circumstances. In the same way yesterday’s carnage is entirely unjustifiable. It’s systematic madness. And this systematic madness is used to send us a message, a message of fear and hate. I reacted to my brother’s death by not giving in to the culture of fear and hate peddled by extremists. I wept not only for the loss of my brother and his family but I also wept for the perpetrators, because their death was also a senseless loss of life.

سيبقى الاسد اسدا والضباع تبقى ضباعا

Even with Google’s bad translation, the agony and truth of how Syria is today’s Iraq or Afghanistan, or Palestine, is clear.

Video: Joan Baez Releases ‘Nasty Man,’ Her Song About Trump: SFist

Famed folk singer and Woodside resident Joan Baez has written a new protest song, this one about President Trump, and it’s titled “Nasty Man.” At 76, her voice may be a little deeper than it once was, but her song styling is much the same as it was in the Vietnam War era as she sings of “a man gone wrong while building up his evil empire.”

The shameless face of Israel

EXCUSE ME, the mass killings in the massacres of Gaza, where were you then?
The destruction that Israel caused to Gaza three years ago is still unmendable. The poisoned gas from phosphorous to God know what in chemicals. The chemical wastes Israel throws in Palestinian territories. The hundreds and thousands of injured people left disabled forever. The tens of thousands of families left under no roof for the last three years now. The thousands of murdered people who left behind loved one bereaved. Why were you silent then?
The words fail me …
It is such a shameless state of people …as well

The shameless face of Israel… The case of Syria
Netanyahu started the day with a nice, compassionate tweet. The man cannot sleep at night from the injustice and the massacres in Syria. He felt angry on and worried from using chemical weapons on innocent citizens. I was thinking …. how disgusting this man is, and I just cannot imagine how he seriously has guts to say this. But at the end, Netanyahu is the master of hypocrisy, a killer and an arrogant tyrant.
Later ,
I was scrolling through articles, and my eyes spotted a title in Haaretz under “ Israel’s historic duty to act on Syria.” I felt like, well, Israel is caring. Human rights and people make a lot of value.
The subtitle was inspiring I would say: “ the same world that ignored the Holocaust and the slaughter in Rwanda has abandoned the murdered victims in Syria…

penned in moon dust

Orphan’s voices lift to the stars

can’t keep feet from moving

notes merge harmonious

large is the circle of our song

mimicking children’s motions

I don’t want the song to end

laughter young and old

fills the skies

tired we sit on mats

our hearts still singing

as we do crafts

 Jesus is smiling

children want to dance in the sky

Asylum to Israel

A standing point for Jerusalemites to make a decision, to decide where they want to belong. To a state that oppresses them, marginalize them, dehumanize them, but yet give them some benefits and an individual status, even under a second or third class category of a citizen. Or to a state that they dream of having, and yet almost entirely realizing it will never see the light of becoming, but continue to pray on having one day, within an authority that we are not really sure what was the bargain that concerns us. We found ourselves watching in both directions, becoming refugees not in other towns or countries but in our very own city and houses. Waiting for a solution that determines our destiny with a choice that may not be ours …

My latest article in Arabic might be by far the most daring according to one of my close friends, who cautioned me about publishing it. And I was as my usual self in such situations finding a good platform to pretend a heroic action that in reality is empty.

I genuinely never wanted to be a critic of the Palestinian Authority, and I never want to be in a place where I would defend Israel. At the end of the day I am a woman who got out of two relations (not the only ones of course) (but two that lasted for quite a time) one from a schizophrenic (psychopath) and another from a troubled bulimic (who thinks he is a narcissist, and seems to understand it as a compliment). Well … yes, there is something about me and the attraction of psychotic desperate cases around me. Does this make…

The visit of Egypt’s Sisi to Washington: The illusion of chemistry and the challenges of reality

Good analysis – Although – don’t give too much credit to Trump really giving any thought or Tweets for/to Egypt. He is the only thing on his radar. But offer his children a cushy deal on a Trump Hotel at Giza and he just might get interested.

On Monday April 3, US President Donald Trump will host Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi for talks in Washington. The last visit of an Egyptian president to the United States was by former ousted president Hosni Mubarak, in 2004.

The Egyptian leadership seems to have spent much time and effort planning this trip to post-Obama America, with three possible main goals in mind: financial support from the new Trump administration, a clearer American stance toward the Muslim Brotherhood, and kick starting a joint foreign policy that allows Egypt to be an important player in a wider regional alliance.

First, to achieve financial support from the Trump administration, which has already vowed to cut foreign aid, President Sisi first has to convince the American administration his regime is stable and that the chance of a revolution of…
